Official touchscreen won’t display: vertical lines

Wed Jan 01, 2020 5:58 pm

I just received a fickle raspberry 7” touchscreen. But I can’ t seem to get it to work. At first I thought I was having trouble with the white ribbon cable as I could only get a white screen But I just realized that my background is fairly close to grey scale, and so that was the reason. If I open a window, I can get color, but only in stripes.
Here are some images of what I have been getting:
After boot:

Start menu:

Window open(assuming chromium):

Running on Raspbian
Thanks in advance.

Show us how it is connected to your RPi and let us know which power supply you're using.

I have power wires connected to 2(5v) and 6(Gnd). And then the ribbon cable. I have tried two different cables, same result. I have connected a 5.25v 2.4A Dedicated power supply(not a USB cable).

Thanks for the help.

Is the ribbon cable in the right connector?

Yes. Or I don't think I would get any picture.

In that case your display is completely useless (dead on arrival) and you should RMA it with your vendor.

Remove the jump wires and use two USB power supplies (one for your Pi, the other goes to the microUSB connector of your 7in.
If this fails as well do as adviced by Dougie

You could suggest removing the yellow and green wires - leave just the 5V & GND wires. The I2C wires are only needed for the model 1 Raspberry Pis.

Thank you both.
I removed the I2C wires early on when I found out they didn’t do anything I needed.
When I use separate power supplies, the screen won’t turn on at all.
