HDMI output to RCA/cinch input?

Wed Dec 04, 2019 9:12 pm

Good evening!

I want to connect the HDMI output of my Raspberry Pi 3 with the cinch input (RCA?) of the LCD-Display of our camper (for the back camera, 2nd channel).

What type of connector or transformation unit do I need?
I do not think that the solution is only a cable because there must be a converter from digital to analogue?

Thanks a lot for all kind of answers

All Raspberry Pi computers have Composite Video out which can feed directly into a TV or monitor which has an RCA / Phono / SCART connector. It would probably be easier using that than trying to find an HDMI to composite interface.

Really? Where can I find it?
That sounds funny because I tried a lot ...

The original Pi A and B models had an RCA connector fitted on-board for composite out.

Later models use a 4-pole 3.5mm jack socket as described in drgeoff's link above.

Except the Zero and Zero W which have holes for a 2-pin header which needs soldering in and a suitable cable made, or for 'direct to board' wiring.

The Compute Modules provide composite out on the TVDAC pin.

All Pi's with a default config.txt configuration will select composite out if HDMI is not connected but, for the Pi 4B, one has to include an "enable_tvout=1" in that config.txt before an actual composite signal is output.
