Raspberry 4 not recognizing USB-Hub behind USB-switch

Hello,

bear with me - this is nearly a short (?) story ... but i have the following problem:

I have a powered ush-hub.
Connected to the hub are
a Astrometa USB Tv stick and
a 2.5” harddisk.

This hub is connected to a USB-switch, by which the connection is directed either to a Raspberry Pi 3b+ (running Linux raspberrypi 4.19.66-v7+ #1253 SMP Thu Aug 15 11:49:46 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux) or
Raspberry Pi 4b (running Linux raspberrypi 4.19.75-v7l+ #1270 SMP Tue Sep 24 18:51:41 BST 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux)
Power adapter is the original Pi 5.1V 3A

Cable length is about 20 cm.

Switching to the Rpi 3b+ the hub is recognized and the correct devices are installed.

Switching to the Rpi 4 the hub is never connected (I tried USB3.0 and USB 2.0)

Switching the cables doesn’t help nor does switching the ports on the USB switch.
Raspberry Pi 3 always works – Raspberry 4 never. So any hardware problems (except for Raspi 4) can be excluded.

My question is why hub and switch are working on the Raspberry Pi 3b+ but not on the Raspberry 4?

What model of USB switch? Can you post the output of:

with & w/o the switch on the P3B+ (that shorter form of the command makes it easier to find info. buried in the "noise" of your "full dump")
How (mechanically) do you switch between Pi's?
I have a similar issue in that this device: https://www.cpmspectrepi.uk/raspberry_p ... ngHub.html is now ~7 years old and does not always switch cleanly (and its indicator leds sometimes "lie") between my Gigabyte Brix box and whatever Pi I have connected and I am awaiting delivery of a simpler (mechanical switch only?) device to test.

it is a mechanical device, which i already checked for loose soldering - all connected (and it can be assured by connecting the Raspi 3b+ on each port.

Is the connected USB harddisk powered solely by the USB hub?
I suspect this could be a problem, as not all hubs are up to the job supplying the USB norm power on each port.
It could also be the PSU unit you are powering the hub with, that are a bit too weak.

As i said above, i also tried to connect the hub without the HD being connected - so the HD is not to blame. And i also said that i am using the original Raspberry Pi 4 power adapter.
