Zombies Are Everywhere and Only You Can Save Us!

Sat Nov 09, 2019 10:10 pm

Zombies are all the rage these days, so I thought I would couch my problem in a game about...yep, zombies. Read on--IF YOU DARE!

You are on an tropical island that, until recently, was populated by your typical island inhabitants. But four days ago a mad (of course) scientist unleashed a chemical agent into the island's water supply that turned the entire population into zombies.

By chance, you and most of your buddies have survived because for the last week you have been living on nothing but rum and coconut milk. But supplies are running low and you know that eventually the zombies will catch up to you. Survival depends on making contact with the mainland. While savaging thru an abandoned AliExpess outpost, you find a sealed box that you cannot open. The box has two ports--power and USB. The label on the box says:

RASPBERRY PI 3 A+
OS: Raspbian
SSID: paradise
Paraphrase: found
Log-in: pi
password: pi
SSH: Enabled

You also find a laptop, but when you boot it up, the wireless modem seems to be broken so you can't use it to get on the Internet. You notice, however, that Putty has been installed. You know that if you can connect to the Internet with something, the network is being monitored on the mainland and someone will see the new device connection and send help.

The islands infrastructure is still intact, so you have electricity. You find a wall wort and plug in the Pi inside the box. You also find a male-male USB cable. There's just one catch. Before he turned into a zombie and tried to eat your brains, your best friend (he had put ice cubes in his rum...bad idea) told you that when people started turning into zombies, the mad scientist (he really was mad, you know) changed the paraphrase to "lost". So the Pi has power and has booted up, but has the wrong paraphrase to attach to the island's network.

In order to save your life and those of your buddies, you have to find a way to change the SSID on the Pi from "found" to "lost". Can you do it? Time is running out and all eyes are on you.

That would work if you already had a console open to the Pi and could log in, but you don't. You're dead! :o (j/k)
