That's true. If nobody has to travel thousands of kilometres to fix it, why even bother.
Yes, that's a big

I did once manage to release a system for transferring (financial) data which pushed all the data into a much too small buffer before any of it was read. No-one got too concerned, I never worked out why not.

Hey, I've been having the same issue, pulling my hair out wondering why this is not working. Can someone post the command to fix the problem. Would sudo apt-get update work?

Thanks.

If you've managed to pick up the dreaded 0.8 update, you have to remove the file and as far as I know, there's no way to do that from the running pi. There's more information earlier on in this thread.

If you've got 0.10, you can run 'sudo apt update && sudo apt install raspi-copies-and-fills' to get 0.11 which should fix problems people have reported with plex and a few other applications.

This is all new to me. How do I know if I got 0.10 ?

What's the output of 'apt policy raspi-copies-and-fills'? If you have 0.8, that should segfault before giving you any useful output. Otherwise, it should tell you what you're on.

Says Installed : 0.10. So I can do the update and install.

Thanks.

That update killed the first RPi3 I tried it on. So I didn't update the other 9.
I had to completely rebuild my SD card from scratch and re-install non-standard software.
Fortunately I do maintain backups.
4 hours of my life I shall not get back.

oh. v0.11 has subsequently installed OK, but I am not running any of the software mentioned in this thread so I cannot speak for other problems mentioned.

A lot of problems with that update.
Please, just upload an update when you have tested thoroughly... A lot of people maybe burned of that.

version 0.10 should be safe.
BTW: what is the intention behind this package? I tested with version 0.10 and a rather popular set of Phoronix benchmarks to compare SBC. One time without libarmmem-v7l.so preloaded, the other time with: https://openbenchmarking.org/result/190 ... 903164SP81

I can only see an improvement with one real benchmark (Primesieve) and otherwise memcpy numbers improve. But overall no improvement or even slightly lower performance.

It was there before I started, so I don't know what the original motivation was. AIUI, you have applications like chromium which like to move a lot of data around in memory. If you have an uncompressed frame of video being memcpied, you don't want ARM pipeline stalls dropping your FPS. As far as benchmarks go, you should see a significant difference with mbw

Any brave souls want to help double check this one definitely doesn't set anything on fire? Especially those that noticed issues which changed behaviour without crashing everything.

Code: Select all

wget http://repo.xecdesign.com/raspi-copies-and-fills_0.12_armhf.deb
sudo dpkg -i raspi-copies-and-fills_0.12_armhf.deb

Code: Select all

sha256sum: 7bdc45b8cba582882d23574a16f1cd3b8df9b3e1dc8fad5bb3584cfadde30c79
Changes:
  • strlen fixed
  • Limit the return values of ARMv7 memcmp() - Fixes the reported chromium and kodi issues.
  • Works with Buster
3B+ benchmarks:

Your https cert is a pile of stinking stuff.

Code: Select all

root@Tranquility:/tmp # wget https://repo.xecdesign.com/raspi-copies-and-fills_0.12_armhf.deb
--2019-04-17 14:52:35-- https://repo.xecdesign.com/raspi-copies-and-fills_0.12_armhf.deb
Resolving repo.xecdesign.com (repo.xecdesign.com)... 80.85.84.120
Connecting to repo.xecdesign.com (repo.xecdesign.com)|80.85.84.120|:443... connected.
ERROR: The certificate of ‘repo.xecdesign.com’ is not trusted.
ERROR: The certificate of ‘repo.xecdesign.com’ hasn't got a known issuer.
So I used curl -k -o foo.deb https://repo.xecdesign.com/raspi-copies-and-fills_0.12_armhf.deb because I think I can trust you.

That's true. Changed it to http:// and added a sha256sum.

It didn't affect my download. It's running on my 3B+ (the one with the official screen and TV uHAT). I'll push it out to the others later (now that I'm over my Broadband failure at 05:15 this morning).
