Hi everyone. I'll do the main post first, then my submission.
This topic is for showing people how you've customised, and what you've done, with your Pi (software-wise and physically), and getting inspiration from other people's ideas. Just upload some screenshots - and/or photos - showing the results of your software and/or physical activities (I use Imgur), along with an optional description and/or how-to. Questions and on-topic chat are welcome. Have fun! Here's my submission to start things off.
(Scroll to the bottom for physical setup.) Some time ago, I saw a thread somewhere on this forum, asking "What does your desktop look like" (screenshots of how you've customised your Pi (not only the actual desktop))
, and wanted to take a look at it again because I was getting a bit tired of the same old default LXDE... day... after day... after day, and wanted to get some inspiration.
So after trawling through Google and the forum for about half a hour, trying to find the thread, I gave up. I went browsing (in Dillo
), and somehow stumbled across a Windows 10 transformation pack (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/ ... ent=171327
). Now, I'm not a huge fan of Windows, but I do
like the way it looks. So after installing the different parts of the pack (I got the "Light" edition source, since the installers aren't ARM. I got the icons and mouse pointer separately from the devs at http://b00merang.weebly.com
, since they aren't included in the pack), and making the bottom panel (taskbar
) slightly transparent and a bit larger (190 opacity, 28px high if you're the kind who likes to know these things), I went to the Downloads section on the Windows website and got myself a lovely wallpaper (Desert Plant). Somehow that particular wallpaper looks better on my monitor when on the "tiled" setting (the res. of the wallpaper is higher than my monitor so that way it only shows the upper left corner of the wallpaper). Here, this has gone on long enough. Have some Screenshots instead.
(If you can only see part of the screenshots (Prosilver has its faults
), "right click>view image" or "open image in new tab" should help.)
You may have noticed the window title bars are still Pix. this is because for some reason the Windows 10 Light title bars have pure white frames on my Pi, which can make things very confusing, so after trying it I switched back to Pix (the closest there is to it).
As for my physical setup
, I don't know why anyone would be interested, but anyway, it's a Pi 1 B+ (PiBow case) running Raspbian Jessie, coupled with an Advent M312 wireless mouse, a HP PR1101U keyboard, a Power Pax KSAS0120500180HK 1.8A power supply bought off Amazon, a pre-imaged NOOBS 8GB SD card from around 2014 (also Amazon), an Edimax EW-7811Un USB Wi-Fi Dongle, a Kinivo BT-400 USB Bluetooth dongle, and finally an old Dell Genesis E153FP monitor (darker splodge near the middle, two lighter splodges near the top right corner
) hooked up via a CLiPtec(R) OCD801 HDMI to VGA Adapter (needed to turn overscan off).
EDIT: got a Samsung SyncMaster 913N monitor off a friend. For someone who's only ever worked with 1024x768 and 1366x768, 1280x1024 is absolutely amazing
(cue angels singing). THERE'S SO MUCH SPACE! And the monitor doesn't have any light or dark areas...
I do moral support. Here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/search.php?search_id=egosearch
I know I use too many parentheses. Problem?
