Display auto backlight off

Tue Oct 06, 2015 12:27 am

I'm trying to find out how to setup the official touch display to automatically turn off the backlight after a period of time.
Blanking isn't turning off the backlight either.

Reason is that with using OctoPrint at home and at the MakerSpace, having the backlight always on is not required or wanted.

Is there a way to have the PI automatically turn off the back light after say 5 -10mins?

Other posts in this forum indicate that this is a feature being actively developed, but isn't released yet,
many are eagerly awaiting it.

I'm worried that without being able to turn the backlight off, the lifespan of my display is being severly limited!

Any update guys?

The backlights of most displays are LED now and last much much longer than the CFL tubes found in older displays.
The major concern is power consumption for those who want to run on batteries.
Unless specified otherwise my response is based on the latest and fully updated Raspbian Buster w/ Desktop OS.
