custom lcd with official driver board

Tue Sep 15, 2015 5:43 pm

since the raspberry pi's official display is out and so is its Lcd driver module, could we be seeing custom made third party displays that attach on to the official driver board to be run with the DSI connector? or is it (driver module) only very specific to the lcd officially shipped with it?

Unlikely at best, plus I tend to doubt that the driver board would be unbundled from the display, so even if you could get a third party display, you'd still have to get an RPF display to get the board.

Then the is that faint rumbling in the background that the RPF may be planning a bigger display (10in ?)...some day. (There are other new/revised products I'd look for first, though.)

I'd also like to use the board for a different display, or do my own board.
Heared rumours that the timing is hard-wired in a binary blob of the video core, is that true?
It would be great if the geometry and timing could be adjusted, would open the door to DSI displays in general.
