Need help with RaspBMC

Hi you all!

Yesterday I finally powered up my new Raspberry Pi 2. I allready had the NOOBS downloaded and placed on the 16GB micro SD-card. After power-up I got the window with the question what OS I would like to have installed. I picked Raspbian, Openelec and Raspbmc.
After installation I was asked to reboot and on reboot I could choose what OS I would like to start.
I choose Raspbmc......but all I got was a black screen.

After some reading I found out that Raspbmc was discontinued for the Pi 2.
Is there a other method to get "Kodi" installed and working on a Pi 2?

I'm completely new to raspberry and programming but I'm eager to learn!

Forget RaspBMC it DOES NOT WORK on a RPi2 and support for it has been dropped.

Use OpenELEC. Or wait for the OSMC (replacement for RaspBMC) stuff to be ready for your RPi2

That Openelec looks complecated!
Is it a OS or do I need to install an OS first en then run that compressed file?
In the intallation guide I read things like "Creating the USB Stick"......but I have a 16Gb micro SD card in the Pi2. So why do I need a USB stick?

Also I can choose between a compressed file and an disk image. What's the difference between the 2? The compressed being the program and the disk image is the complete deal: including OS?

Like I mentioned I'm just starting with a Pi and have no programming skills.
So I need small easy steps to make this work if possible.
I doubt if I ever will be as good as you all!

It's an SDCard image. You write it to your SDCard with Win32DiskImager, pull the card out of your laptop and boot your RPi.

Can it realy be THAT simple???
So I write that "disk Image" with Win32DiskImager to the micro SD card and done??

One question remains: can I also have Raspbian as an OS on my Pi2 and have a "multi-boot" setup?
Or is that only possible after some years working with a Pi?

You can't do the multiboot thing unless you want to build Berryboot, OpenELEC for RPi2 isn't part of NOOBS.

There's no problem when you put it like that!
Other then the fact that the case I bought for my Pi2 is actualy for the Pi B/B+....and it just doesn't fit 100%. The Pi2 board is just a little to big on all 4 sides! And because of this.....I can't get the SD card out without disasembling the case a bit.

The B+ and 2B have the same size PCB, I reused a B+ Case no issues

Yes.

It's impossible to tell because the person who wrote the Win32DiskImager is a moron.

It's most likely a bad *.img file since it reports a read error.

It could be a microSD Card error, maybe try formatting with the SDCard Formatter Tool (with Size Adjustment ON)

It's not the image itself. Downloaded several new copy's with al the same result.
And to format the card I already use SDFormatter 4.0
So I have no idea what the problem is.

The other file is OpenELEC-RPi2.arm-5.0.5.tar. How can I use this file to install the data?
Simply unzip it to the sd card...plug the card in the Pi2 and power-up the pi2?

You mean the checksum in Win32 DiskImager? That MD5 Hash?

The downloaded .IMG file should have a Checksum Key

The OpenElec .IMG file has various checksum hash methods to ensure an intact download:

SHA-256 Hash
SHA-1 Hash
MD5 Hash

I checked the box for MD5 Hash......and the image has been written to the sd card without any problem!

I'll boot up the Pi2 tonight...can't wait to see the result.
Is this build different then the Kodi build I have on my Android smartphone?

The version of Openelec is basically just a port of XMBC (Kodi) to the Raspberry Pi.

If you want to watch MPEG-2 (which is the default codec for over the air broadcasts and many TV tuner cards) or VC-1 (which is a Microsoft codec?) videos then you need to swing by the pi store and purchase an MPEG-2 or VC-1 license

Hmmmmm...okay guys/girls...The OpenELEC install to the micro SD card did work after I checked the MD5 Hash box.
BUT....on install (@home) it went wrong. After I plugged the HDMI cable, mouse and keyboard in I plugged the usb power cable (5V - 2A) in and it started to install OpenELEC.
I got a notification that the install has finished and that the Pi was going to reboot.
It did but came no further then the OpenELEC logo screen.
Is that normal? I couldn't use the keyboard or mouse. After about 5 minutes the screen went black. I guess some sort of screensaver? I waited about 15 minutes...nothing happent. So I unplugged the power cable.

Does anybody know what went wrong? Did I do anyting wrong?
