What would REALLY suck is a mobile phone service problem waking up an entire state an hour early by mishtake!

Apparently Queensland, Australia don't have a winter clock change for daylight savings. By mistake someone changed the time on a company's mobile phone system, and enough people woke early to cause traffic jams:

While I agree with the sentiment, sometimes the poster can follow the awful title with a nicely written, polite request for assistance.

How is the chip powered? Do I have to plug my child into the mains once a week?
If it's like a dog's microchip, I see the world kitted out with scanners every hundred yards just to keep track of the kids ... cheaper to use cameras.

Apparently most respondents were in favour ... but how about the people who didn't respond - because they thought it was stupid?

My daughter's school considered using fingerprints as ID for the library ... so many parents objected it was dropped.

They could use the contactless payment terminals that are popping up everywhere (Lidl, Post Office, Oyster, my gym's door entry, etc.) those are good enough to light up a RFID tag.

Soon we'll all be able to walk into Lidl and pay for someone else's shopping or pay for their oyster train journey at the station.

AFAICT scope is determined at runtime, since you can pass functions as parameters then a functions scope cannot be determined until it is run. So....
to pass a callback function to be executed later it must be stored by a function that executes when you first pass it.
Am I getting old and senile or is this actually a good idea?

Hi all -- I've locked this thread.

Over the last 3+ years there has been some genuinely funny, informative, thought provoking stuff here. Lately thought the tone at times has started to get a bit unkinder, even having digs at beginners (when they are the people that we should unconditionally support). Jokey moaning is fine, negativity for the sake of it is not. And when you start having to delete posts of a religious nature then you know it's time to go I'm afraid...

On top of this, the sheer size of the thread makes it harder to moderate and is taking up a disproportionate amount of time for the mods. So thanks for all the posts, it's been one of my favourite threads in general But it's time to put it to bed.
