Just to remind people, and for the avoidance of any doubt, the OP was making a light-hearted, observation.To my mind, buying such a piece of compressed carbon is a complete waste of money, very pretty, I guess, if you like that sort of thing, but what can you DO with it?

Liz, like all the other Foundation members, is a volunteer. They have all been working on this project for several years for NO WAGES - indeed they have put money IN to the project, including mortgaging their homes and the like just to raise the money to build the first 10,000.

Liz announced a few weeks ago that the Foundation's first paid employee will be joining the team shortly to manage the online shop selling RPF Merchandise when it reopens.

I don't think it was a poor attempt at humor at all.  It was quite good, although I actually think the note about the 600,000 pound (aka, about a million USD) TV was even better.  Just what every foundation member needs - a 13 foot TV to display their Pi output on.
