JQuery

Sun Jan 05, 2014 12:09 pm

Hello,
I would like to write a document with JQuery (and JQuery UI) which I learnt from ‎Codecademy, but I didn't learn how to download it onto my Pi or how to use it in a document. Can anyone help me? I would like the file to work offline as well as online.
Thanks in advance,
Henno

If you want to use jQuery offline (i.e. without internet access) then you can download the appropriate version of jQuery from jquery.com. Put the .js file in an appropriate spot (e.g. a script folder) and reference it in you HTML file.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that, being a complete newbie to these things, have no idea how to do that! I tried clicking on the "download" link on the website of jQuery in Midori, but it just took me to a new web page covered in symbols. My guess would be that I have to use "apt-get" but I don't know what I would have to put in afterwards :? . And one more thing: does jQuery UI need jQuery already installed?
Thanks again,
Henno

Open a command window

sudo apt-get install wget curl # you may already have those tools
cd /home/pi
mkdir JQuery
cd JQuery
curl http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.js > JQuery.js

or wget http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.10.2.js

Ah thanks. I think UI I can simply download from the website. And finally, how would I include them in a program?

Start with the tutorial at http://learn.jquery.com/

You're going to need to use nano or vi or leafpad to create HTML and Javascript files.
