SqueezePlug Version 5 ready for download

Hi,
I like to inform you that there will be a small delay for the new release SqueezePlug 6. The reason for this is that I had some problems with SqueezeLite, a player for SqueezeBox Server (LMS). It took me 2 days to figure it out!

The good thing about this is that I learned a lot about internal an external sound cards and DACs you hopefully also find useful. I got a branch of external USB sound devices running and I like to include some scripts to configure them in an easy way.

So that will take some more time, but I think it's worth waiting. The last days I saw a lot of you struggling with sound issues.

So I hope I'll be ready the next days, but I will be a related X-MAS present.

Given my latest task is trying to install a paired bluetooth speaker, I'd really like to see a headless version of blueman (given that bluez-utils don't seem to work well on the Pi!). Just a suggestion for any programming enthusiasts out there!

I've upgraded SqueezePlug to version 5.05 (from the first release), and ever since then I'm experiencing poor audio quality over HDMI...
I've tried both SqueezeSlave & SqueezeLite with the same results...
Any ideas?

I did connect the USB from the Pi into my USB port on the DAC, but there was no sound. I was not to surprised as the Pi FAQ indicates that there is only audio on the 3.5 mm jack and the HDMI connection.

if you have /etc/asound.conf, create a backup and try this in /etc/asound.conf. It work for me with my USB DAC.

You dancer! Worked first time. None of the instructions in either Thomas' or ski552.s threads about using USB DACs were working and I was starting to pull my hair out!

Clone or copy SD card

Due to my own stupidity, I managed to screw up my working squeezeplug!

It has taken me hours to reimage and setup as before ...

Is there an easy way to create a clone or copy of the working card? I don't have any other devices on which to do the 'official' clone.

Once you have it set up again to as it was before the 'screw up', use something like USB Image Tool (on a windows pc) to make a backup image of your sd card, effectively a 'snapshot' of it in its current working form. Then, if there's another 'screw up', you can just re-image the sd card from the working snapshot you've created.

I do this regularly with the OpenELEC XBMC sd card which I use to test nighty builds from the xbmc forum.

Download and install usb image tool. Run it. Insert the sd card. Select the card from the left-hand pane, click 'backup', input a name a location for the snapshot, wait whilst it does its work.

Sound card config

I need some advice on how to set bluetooth as an output option for squeezelite.

At the moment the default output is via the Pi analog.

I would like to be able to switch between this and bluetooth.

Following google threads (very confusing!):

I added to the default asound.conf in /etc :-

Well, trying with an mp3 file, all the speaker produced was white noise ....

The download is very slow and unstable for me. I have been trying for several hours. I have gotten as much as 200MB before it fails. Does anyone have a torrent seed?

I am rather excited by the work done on this project after watching the great video.

As you can see, the DAC is the default device 0.

I've just noticed your posts on the SqueezeLite thread of the slimdevices forum. That would see to be the best place to get what you're looking for - perhaps message Triode to see if he can help?
