first of all, huge thanks for Kodi, it finally works on my pi4.

Only issue I have:
When in dual monitor mode (2x VGA monitor via micro HDMI adapter -> VGA) the HDMI2 goes blank (even though this feature is disabled in Kodi).

Also, when I have two screens with different resolutions they kind of fallback to the lowest common denominator (ie 1024x768 <- this can be fixed with the screen config tool under Raspbian though). This config tool can do screen mirroring (you can drag/drop the two screens on top of each other, or they can be extended/side-by-side when you pull them apart. HDMI2 is blank in the SECOND scenario, not mirroring).

Under Kodi, there is no option to select the output screen under system -> system -> display.

Thanks.

Other than that, this works! Finally Kodi on my Pi4. thank you.

Check a few posts back in this thread. I believe @armyofme was trying to solve a similar problem.

Thanks for keeping working it. Looking forward to the updated deb.

The kodi-rpi4_18.3-5_armhf.deb in the original post seems to be a 'Debug' build. Would you please do a 'Release' build for this upcoming 18.4? Actually I'd like to (cross-) compile and build myself. Can you share your setup env and building steps? I tried to follow docs/README.* from the xbmc repo but was kinda lost in fighting autotools and cmake for the correct options of building this specific kodi-rpi4-gbm. A "justworks" docker image would be lovely - not asking for your building it - just want some help for myself doing it. :)

Also one thing to note: htop shows this kodi-rpi4_18.3-5 (running on raspbian) uses more cpu than another kodi version running on my old rpi3 (osmc) box. Considering rpi4 is (much) more powerful than rpi3, i expected the other way around. Idle kodi-rpi4 could hit 30% or 40%. Fullscreen videoplay actually uses less cpu (10-20%). Looks like the kodi UI triggers this. Still, this performs worse than the version on rpi3.

Not sure if this is due to the 'Debug' build (and/or other compile/build option) or the code itself. Just wanted to report this and let you know. Hopefully it will get fixed in the new 18.4 build.

Ditto on the build process and Release build. I reported the performance issue a few pages back. Once or twice when I have started Kodi, it works correctly, with high performance and little CPU use. Every other time, it uses ~50% of one core when idling, and (more importantly) interacting with the UI (via a remote) spikes the CPU briefly to 100% on all cores, resulting in a very slow interface compared to on the Pi 3. I suspect that Kodi is having trouble activating the accelerated graphics mode sometimes, but I have not been able to narrow the problem down further than that. OpenGL is reported as VMware OpenGL ES 3.0 Mesa, if that helps anyone.

IMHO, the dream would be to have a prepared Docker container for building it.

A great way to don't have to install a gazillion dependencies onto your computer and also it will provide a completely identical environment for all building it.

I played around with it, and I managed to build it in Docker, on the Rpi4.
But since I don't know the outs and ins of Kodi, all I managed was a vanilla build.

I did a Debug build for... well, debugging I guess... :D I anticipated to run into problems and figured it might be useful. It turned out not to be. So, I will go ahead and do a Release build for 18.4.

In terms of the build process, I would have to disappoint -- I am not a big fan of Docker. :? I've used systemd-nspawn to chroot into Raspbian image and built it that way.

In general, to handle build dependencies I either use mk-build-deps -i -r <pkg>, when doing a straight rebuild of a .deb package; or figure out a list of build deps (can be a royal PITA) and make my own <pkg>-build-deps.deb package with dpkg-deb -b. In either case, after the build process is over, simply uninstall <pkg>-build-deps.deb (if installed by hand) and run apt autoremove --purge to uninstall all the build deps.

I will try to keep track of what I do for 18.4 and make some sort of build instructions, so that everyone can ...

Share and enjoy! 8-)

Debug builds are quite often a lot slower than Release builds, if for no other reason than that they usually disable compile time optimizations. I don't know what other differences might be involved with the Debug version of Kodi.

Systemd-nspawn instructions would be great too! That's how I do a lot of stuff for the Pi, though I bet the Pi 4 is fast enough to build Kodi directly.

My fellow Kodified Raspinauts of the 4th Dimension, I bring to you Debian package for Kodi 18.4 Leia:

https://transfer.sh/X7gZH/kodi-rpi4_18.4.0-1_armhf.deb.

Well, actually... I don't bring anything. I just package it up in an easy to swallow .deb package. :D

I haven't tested it yet myself, as I am working late today (just like any other day). So, if anyone feels adventurous, go ahead and give it a spin. Otherwise, I will try to do some testing tonight and will update the thread tomorrow.

And for those brave souls here is my build script. WARNING: It is very crude and was written in RPi_Mike style with no checks or balances. So, if something goes wrong, you may need to "completely NUKE your system ... and then start all over again from scratch!".

If someone is interested in pvr.hts addon - it is fully functional from LibreELEC with this kodi build (see https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 8&t=250756).

@innocent_bystander thank you very much for the new version !
sadly the CPU load on idle is not really reduced - have still 30%
had hope that its due to the debug build ... this build is a normal release build or isn't it?

MPEG-2 is running with 18.4 :D
on 18.3 the testfiles crashed Kodi immediately

you could use files from this links

https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples (MPEG2 4:2:2@High 1080i/29.970 35Mbps crashed on 18.3)

or from here

https://www.w6rz.net/
directlink to a file https://www.w6rz.net/ed24p_00.zip (1080p@24.0, 40 Mbps)

VC-1 runs too but one CPU on 80%
MPEG-2 testfile has 60 %

Yep, this is a release build. It must be something else then. If anyone has a LibreELEC setup handy, we can compare what their CPU usage is like.

IIRC RPi 4 doesn't support hardware decoding for these, so this is expected.

Sadly, when I briefly tested 18.4 last night it didn't render any dialog boxes or the cursor. It could be because I am running mixture of Raspbian and Ubuntu though...

@derders so 18.4 from the above post worked fine for you? (Other than high CPU usage)

last test some weeks ago on LibreELEC everything was fine (not significant CPU load)

yes it works good, have to test more later
I use Xonfluence as skin and have no problems - but Estuary skin is faulty like you described
copied Estuary from my Windows Kodi 18.4 to PI and skin works like it should

For anyone looking for the binary addons, like pvr.hts, pvr.vuplus, pvr.iptvsimple, etc, try this, most of them should work, unless 4 or 5 which need to be compiled against the gpu library, in this case the broadcom proprietary one:
https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/view ... 6#p1530907

After that, don't update everything or install the kodi package/binary as for now it only works on the Pi 3 and below. Remove the repo after install what you want to avoid problems in future updates.
