When you press on the top spring loaded wire fingers extend from the bottom. Put a screw into the fingers and the spring retracts the fingers to hold the screw. You can then start the screw and switch to a screw driver to finish. I first saw this tool used by model railroaders. It has saved me from screws dropped behind mother boards more than once.
