Raspbian Buster

Sun Jan 28, 2018 4:10 pm

Is there a raspbian buster I can upgrade to? Can I do it simply by changing my sources.list to buster sources and updating upgrading and dist-upgrading? If all this is possible, is it as relatively non risky as it is on debian?

What is a raspbian buster?

Is it sold by Dairy Queen?

Edit: I realized just after posting that this is the dorky codename for the next version of Raspbian.

TBH, when I first saw this thread, I thought OP was using the term "buster" as in "killer" - like people often talk about other SBCs as "Raspberry killers".

You could change the sources to Buster and see what happens:

In case you're curious where "Jessie", "Stretch", "Buster" and other names come from, they are the titles given to major releases of Debian which is the Linux distribution upon which our beloved Raspbian is based.

Also, those names are characters from the movie Toy Story.

Curiously, the "unstable" releases of Debian are titled "sid" which, if you remember the movie, was the crazy kid in the movie who dismembered toys.

This works very well to install debian buster on RPi 3 B+ using arm64 and kernel 4.18

if you can't wait for the raspbian buster upgrade, perhaps the buster unofficial image might be useful for you

Got my PI 4!!!!!!!!!!
Almost good except I keep getting errors about 'Buster' Temporary failure resolving 'archive.raspberrypi.org' also:
Temporary failure resolving 'raspian.raspberrypi.org'.
Whats up? how do I fix it please.

(using freshly downloaded noobs 3.1.1 on formatted card)

Saturday 6 July; Buster will be the name for Raspian 3.1.1 Why does it not work? Brandnew PI4 4GB loaded recomended 3.1.1 - followed all recommended moves. Desktop works, WiFi works; Bluetooth works; wireless keyboard/mouse is perfect; localisation is a mess! I cannot be in Netherlands (where I am) and have English. I have to say I am in UK, then I can have English!!!!!!!! Any attempt to update gets error messages as above. Have re-downloaded 3.1.1 to a brand new card - still broke!!

Return to “Raspbian”
