Well I've been using the latest Kodi 18 for the past weeks

One thing I noticed, it takes longer for return to video file selection after finishing any video I watched (20 to 40 seconds delay), unlike when it was still 17.6 (usually takes 10 secs or less).

Kodi player on RPi3B+
files are accessed from RPi3B NAS over GbE LAN.
no other hardware changes
just Kodi upgrade from 17.6 to 18.0 after running apt update and apt upgrade

is this a known problem? any solution in the horizon?
if none, is there a procedure to revert back to 17.6?
"Don't come to me with 'issues' for I don't know how to deal with those

Some people be like:

Never noticed any delay when video finishes, it goes instantly (or it 1 or 2 seconds, never noticed) to the library or folder. In Kodi 18 and older versions.
Which protocol are you using ? SMB is known to have some issues in Kodi 18, although I don't have any problem.

Also where is your Kodi database stored, locally or remotely?

That kind of delay sounds to me like some issue with the database, either some corruption in it or some network issues in trying to write and update it after watching something (changing the watched state stored etc).

I didn't experience this issue myself yet but it sounds like this kodi change https://github.com/xbmc/xbmc/pull/15459 - which is included in Kodi 18.1 - should fix it.

so long,

Did an update and upgrade just now but did not see the Kodi in the list.
Confirming my Kodi is still 18.0 after the upgrade.

for the other questions:
1. library is stored locally to this RPi3B+
2. smbv1 is maximum protocol set

no improvement after setting the maximum protocol to smbv3 and the minimum protocol to smbv1

and it does seem that Kodi is accessing the network after finishing the video (watched the LED activity on the GbE switch).
rewatching a previously marked watched video, still the delay persist.

Kodi 18.0 is still the latest version available on Raspbian. I know that the 18.1 final commit is already merged, but since there wasn't an announcement on the oficial page, I wasn't in a hurry to update it. I will update it this weekend and then post a reply here. But I am not sure if that will fix it for you. My advice is to use a SMB mount on the OS level, or better yet use NFS.

Despite the "bug" I still prefer Kodi as video player over VLC.....

....will wait for the update this weekend and hope it "exterminates" the bug....
an announcement of its availability will be much appreciated.

Keep up the good work guys!

Since Kodi 18 is now stable and available on the RPi Foundation repo, I ask for people with questions and/or problems to use the following post to keep things easier to track:
