RPI3 B+ Official touchscreen issue

Mon Nov 19, 2018 4:37 pm

Hi guys. I've recently bought a raspberry pi 3 B+ and the official raspberry pi 7' inch display.
I've installed the most recent version of raspbian, connected it to my pc monitor, updated and everything works fine.

Now when i connect the pi to the touchscreen alone, i can't get the display to turn on. The screen is just black.

So i did the troubleshooting in https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... hooting.md.

But the problem still persists. Maybe its a faulty board. Any help?

Are you powering both the Raspberry Pi and the touch screen either through the the GPIO or by using a Y usb connector?

I have the display board connected to the pi by GPIO ( 5V, SDA, SCL, GND) and i'm powering the pi using the microUSB on the display board.

Ok after browsing the forums i found out that you only need the 5V and ground cable. Issue remains.
Reinstalled os using noobs, had tried using a raspbian image before. Issue continues.

Now i think that the DSI is mounted incorrectly. According to the pics, the DSI conector lock is on the outside of the PI, mine is on the inside.

Should i try to force these locks off? Or just ask for a refund where i bought the pi?

The connector looks to be the wrong way around. IIRC there are a couple of reported cases with the same problem
Removing the lock will not help because the whole connector is the wrong way around (and the contacts are on the wrong side)

Get a replacement / refund from the supplier

There have been a couple of threads about the camera connector being reversed.
One I found is viewtopic.php?f=43&t=225238
On that thread, Roger Thornton asked for a photo of the 2-D barcode.

So, just in case they'd still like it, could you post a similar photo here?

Sorry just exchanged today that pi for a brand new one. The people that sold me are an official raspberry pi reseller so they'll probably put the pressure up in the food chain.
