Hello..I am Vasilis Vorrias, 57 years old. I studied electronics and I got my HND in Greece in 1976. Then I did some studies in North London Poly for 2 years in digital electronics.

Then back in Greece since 1979 I envolved in a lot of projects using Z80 microprocessor. I made my own business selling computers for organizing companies and at the end I had my own data center selling internet with dial up. When ADSL came I close my business for obvious reasons (competition).

The last 10 years I am employed in a firm owned by an old friend (and an old customer of mine, when I had my business running). I am involved in making some electronic designs and in programming PLC for controlling the machinery we are producing.

I wanted to get involved with projects using ATMEL micro controllers but the I saw the Raspberry project and I would like to get involved. First as a hobby and then more professionally. May be building some industrial grade projects (alarm systems, controllers, etc. Cheap and robust. My experience in the industrial sector will help me on that I suppose.

I'm a Computer Engineering student that just found out about the RasPi and am very excited about it, especially since it's coming out in a few short months.

I have some digital electronics experience and some MCU programming experience and I've done more than just some PC programming so I hope I'll be able to use the Raspberry Pi for some cool stuff.

Right now I'm wondering if the kind of power and flexibility the RasPi provides would be useful for a robot that will take part in the Eurobot competition.

You might be particularly interested in this thread about GPIOs, but be sure to stop by the Projects and Collaboration subforum as we discuss some of the practical applications of the r-pi

i followed your progress now for some months, and finally i thought i should log in to! i´m 26 years old, kno a bit more about computers than just to use it, but in the end thats all. i think i´d youse this cool gadged to get rid of my streaming box, an another one to play around, and than i might need another one...there are sooooo many possibillities to play around, set up, do anything. i really cant await it.

ahhh, and yes i forgot: im from austria (no kangoroos, but nice coffee ) and a chemist.

I've been programming since I was 7, starting on my beloved Spectrum +2 and being able to write games in BASIC without thinking about it. After getting bored of that, I started on Z80 machine code when I was about 13. Eventually my Spectrum gave up and I got an Amiga, and played lots of games. When I was 24 I got back into programming and wrapped my head around VB.net and C#, though had a penchant for anything Linux related. Cue present day I'm 31, have a fair amount of ability in Linux distros (mostly Ubuntu) still programming C# but learning Python too.

I'm here looking to make a distro for the Raspberry-Pi to facilitate learning Python specifically, with add-ons for gaming. It would be awesome to give someone the start on computers I had!

My name is Marc Joigny, 61 years old, living in France.
I have been curious and later fond of computers.
My poor marks in mathematics prevented me to work in anything related to computers, but later at work, when an IBM 4381 mainframe was introduced, I could learn a lot of interesting things.
By the late 80s PCs were slowly introduced and this was more exciting, I could start to write programs without the help or mathematics
If I have never been a friend with mathematics, languages are my strength : english, german, spanish, italian.
One colleague spoke about Linux and at home I have worked to discover this nice and reliable system.
All my computers and 15 "travelling" hard disks are working with Linux, including a small tower only running at 300 mhz, fitted now with 256 Mb of RAM and able to work with up to date distributions.
I have always been interessed in evolution and the Raspberry project is an excellent one !

Hi, I'm from Canada and i would like to distribute the ultra-low-cost computer you're about to release. I'm really interested at helping people in help by distributing it in Canada and in the US if you don't have a distributor there. I'm not trying to do a lot of money with this (and by that I mean covering the shipping cost and the packaging), I just want to do something for this great project. I can be linked with a contract if needed without any problem from my side.

A distributor in Canada would be a great idea because we are often left aside of these project. Some reasons why:
1- Because a lot of businesses in the US don't want to do the paperwork for the customs
2- Shipping cost is higher and for the price tag of the computer, shipping cost vs item cost could be as low as possible
3- A lot of shipments made from the US by businesses are with ''private'' parcel shipping compagny instead of United States Postal Service (usps) the result is a prohibitive customs fees. ( Did you ever bought a rock climbing training grip on sale at 30$ and pay FedEx 32$ (4.50$ in taxes and 27.50$ in customs fees!!), while with usps it's 5$ because when going through the customs it's in the hand of Canada Post)
-With a distributor from Canada you could have more demand from here and this way helping more the people in need with the '' give 1 get 1'' approach.

I'm in the financial domain, I'm currently working at the family business (fiscality, helping to start new businesses, going through all of the bureaucracy of the government), I do run a home recording studio, freelance industrial design and photography.

I'm Joe. My first computer was an Amstrad PCW, an ultra-cheap 8-bit UK computer made in the early 1990s. I was a mature student then and I'm one again, now studying innovation management.

Among other things, I'm interested in "low end internet": websites for mobile phone users. I run PodaPoda.com, a website which lists mobile news sites (like m.guardian.co.uk), which work best on mobile phones and is aimed at users who have no internet access, except by phone. By extension, I'm interested in low-end internet devices. I think R-pi is a hugely humanitarian endeavour and I'd like to help however i can, within the limitations of having a fulltime job and a part-time degree.

Hi, I'm James, an ancient old man of the IT world (I first worked on an all-valves-and-wires machine called the NCR-Elliott 405 (http://www.vintage-icl-compute......com/icl40) and went on through IBM 360, PCs, Sinclair ZX-80 and Spectrum. At one stage I taught advanced database design for Big Blue. Having left IT a few years ago, the Arduino, Netduino and Rep Rap have brought me back.

I have a dream to produce a series of "Fab Labs" (community workshops) around the UK, based on Rep Rap and open source fabrication systems, like http://www.Contraptor.org, MakerBeam, etc. Extending the idea of Rep Rap: rather than one machine that self-replicates using Open Source, a whole workshop, with both additive and subtractive engineering: 3D printers, CNC mills, CNC laser cutters, plasma cutters, even lathes.

Until I heard about Raspberry Pi, it seemed that the PCs to back it all up looked horribly expensive. Now I have a vision of digging out all those old laptops that lie in cupboards, gathering dust, stripping out the "recoverable" stuff, and inserting Raspberry Pi's, running Ubunto, Blender, and Replicator G.

I'm based in the home of the Spitfire (birth place of R G Mitchell), between Winchester and Southampton. Please feel free to contact me; the hacking scene down here is currently lonely!

I'm from South Wales, UK. (Guess what hairstyle i had when i started using this nickname)
I'm a 19 year old student studying Computer Science at University (This year it will be Aberystwyth, last year it was Reading... long story)
, and this project has me very, very interested. I was looking into building a low end wifi shower radio and found that all the cheapest boards were incapable of doing much, and the ones that met my needs were well over what money i had.

Since finding out about Rasberry Pi, i have been full of ideas on how to use this amazing little computer, both for fun and to really make a difference to peoples lives.

And if you do manage to get programming back into ICT at schools it would be great! Much better than what i was taught at that level anyway.

I have always had an interest in computers and technology and as much as i consider it a hobby of mine i really only have a mild grasp on the hardware and software of a computer. I have been worried to dive into my few hundred dollar pc and install new operating system, tweak settings ext. I have always wanted to try working on linux system and have a better grasp of how everything works. theirs something about your project that has really got my interest. this is one of the only forums i have ever posted on, but i wanted to express my interest in your project i would like to order two as soon as they become available.

My name is Yudhi, virtually known as diekoe, from Jakarta Indonesia. I've been more than ten years in IT and Telco infrastructure solution area. I'm not good in hardware nor software design, but fluently tailoring materials into a good solution as well as playing with unix/linux/BSD. My competency in computer networking leads me to gaining my CCIE certification.

I am thinking of and interested in combining Raspi and linux/BSD for various cheap network appliances, especially for harsh remote environment. Having two or more ethernet interfaces, in which one of them fiber optic type is highly expected in this kind of usage.

Hi everyone, I'm Oskar, I'm 19 years old and I live in Sweden.

I recently finished a course called IT-Media - photography, websites, video, graphic design etc. - and in a year or so I'm looking into starting a course in computer game development.

In my spare time i play a lot of guitar and sit a lot by my computer, mainly because I play guitar by my computer. I also enjoy Minecraft and other games aswell. I don't however enjoy writing, even this short message took almost an hour for me to put together, so don't expect me to post very much in the forums.

Well, I am very much looking forward to the finished Raspi and I'm probably going to buy one when they are finished. I'm probably going to hook it up to my TV to play video formats that the bluray doesn't play. Also, web browsing on 40 inches!

My name is Daniel Silva, 26 years old and i'm from Aveiro, Portugal.

My first computer was a Intel 386SX based box and later on upgraded to an Intel i486DX2-66, which i kept for quite a long time until i replaced it with an Intel Pentium III ( ! ). Curiously enough i still have the 486 processor with me and i always keep it close to me when i work.

I've been using Linux since 1999 ( Linux Mandrake ) although i also use Windows as needed and i've had quite a few Mac systems over the years. Currently i use a mix of Ubuntu, Debian and FreeBSD ( mainly on servers ).

My programming "career" started on high school where i started to work on web developing using ASP, Coldfusion and PHP. I also do a bit of C and Java although i'm more confortable now on C# and Vala. I'm a tinkerer by nature so i've been caught playing and programming various development boards similar to the Raspberry Pi before, mainly Gumstixs, but i've also programmed a few AVR's, ZiLOG's and ColdFire v1's.

I was currently in the middle of finishing my degree in IT but i decided to relegate this area to "hobby status" and am switching degrees to Logistics this year ( which is actually my line of work for the past 7 years ).

I plan to use Raspberry Pi with Linux, Vala and .NET MF.

I am Andre, Welshman, ASIC/FPGA Designer and I remember back to the days of getting my ZX81 to run Bernoulli's equation to make a black square dot move up and down a screen.
Presently putting together my own low power processor from the ISA, writing the RTL and blowing into an FPGA. Should you ever hear of low power core called Trinity then that's me. Nothing to do with a BIG Si company, also nothing to do with Dr Oppenheimer, tall dark haired girls in long leather coats or a UK Newspaper publisher .
I want to see Raspberry Pi succeed and get the UK back into coding, 'IT' at schools became how to use software with no or little background information as to the operation of the machine.
I hope that this project will bring back the excitement of being able to make something happen under your own steam.

I am Ian, not a coder or programmer as many of you are, but a parent of two young kids who are being introduced to (Microsoft) computers at school. I'm doing the polar opposite at home getting them using Linux instead.

Congratulations to the RaspberryPi team for taking us back a decade or three to a time when computers in education meant being taught about computers! If my two get to learn even just a little of something like Python with one of these devices, and get to run a program they have punched into it run on our TV screen then I'll be one happy customer.
