Raspian stretch does not reconnect to wifi after restart access point

Thu Mar 08, 2018 7:32 am

I do not understand why if I restart my access point,
Raspian stretch does not connect again remaining in No APS scanning,
I have to restart it to re-establish the connection. I did a clean installation same problem what can it be?

Are you using a hidden SSID?

I've been testing in this area, and normal SSID would rescan fine, hidden ones needs a change to wpa_supplicant.conf.

I was using the latest firmware however, and a slightly modified linux driver (both to be released soon)

no hidden ssid, simply wifi does not hang up anymore to its wifi after a restart of the access point, I have to restart the raspberry with raspbian to get back the wifi.

I had the problem after the latest brcm firmware updates

I solved by replacing the stretch wifi drives with those of jessy

procedure:

Download brcm_Raspbian_Jessy.rar

https://www.pensierando.it/Nextcloud/in ... LBtoeHHGsW

unzip

launch the commands

Code: Select all

sudo mv /lib/firmware/brcm /lib/firmware/brcm-stretch

sudo mv [path_from_file]/brcm /lib/firmware/brcm

sudo apt-mark hold firmware-brcm80211 #prevent it from beeing updated

#back
#sudo apt-mark unhold firmware-brcm80211
I have the latest raspbian version which with the latest updates gave me the problem that if I restart the raspbian access point it did not reconnect.

replacing the last drives with those of jessy everything is back to work.

when will the bug be fixed?

We believe we have a fix for the crashes when rebooting an AP or using a hidden SSID. In my testing this week, with the latest firmware and Linux driver, the Pi did reconnect to a rebooted access point, except in the hidden SSID case, which required a change in wpa_supplicant (as outlined in another thread).

Not sure when this will be released. A few days I expect - it's clearly better than before.

Couldn't be any worse. I've got a couple of RPi3s that are not at all happy with WiFi. I'm willing to do a beta test if you can stick the fixed modules on Github (Gist), Google docs or Dropbox or somewhere.

What you can try is the standard 4.14 with the new firmware. That combination should work and be more robust. 4.9 has a missing commit on the Linux driver that is in 4.14. Would be interested to see results.

Is this with the new wireless firmware that we had to roll back?

I'm still with jessy's drive instead of stretch and everything's going well,

but when will you release the updated wireless firmware I will find it with sudo apt update and dist-upgrade?

The release will mean that apt upgrade/update will get it.

Currently still testing.

Hmm. 4.14 in my testing with the NEW firmware works fine. Reconnected after a AP reboot. Is it possible for you to try the newest firmware? Would appreciate any reports on that particular combination.

Is that the current minus one version from apt-get? What's the date on the firmware that I need to test. Or where can I download a zipfile?

This is the current firmware

That's the 7.45.98.38 version, so I'll give that a go over the weekend.

When it fails I'm getting this from wpa_supplicant

I just tested the brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin
from the link you have put
on my raspberry pi3

restarting the access point and it worked, after restarting it kept connecting and reconnecting.

so I can say that it worked for me

I just tested this situation with Comitup on the latest Stretch. It reconnects to an interrupted Access Point just fine.
