As I posted above, it is not production capacity thing. The Foundation could make millions. And then go out of business because, hey, look, not enough profit. Anyone else trying the same thing would go out of business.fruitoftheloom wrote:RPT (not RPF) are addressing the situation by having the BCM2837 3B (maybe the 2B v1.2 as well) manufactured by Sony Japan, therefore leaving more capacity at Sony Pencoed WalesMarkyV wrote:From my understanding from talking to the tech guys at the foundation Pi Zero is not a profit making product - the reason they are in short supply is because they have to stop one of their 3 machines making profitable products (Pi3b) to make a run of Pi Zero (or W) - zero is provided at this price to enable schools etc to be able to afford a classfull of devices on their budget.![]()

The irony of that is that the just released CM3 is actually substantially cheaper than the CM it replaces--$30 vs. $40 (though $30 in quantity and now lists for $30).barton wrote:The backlash is unbelievable and pathetic. I started with a ZX81 because the ZX80 was obsolete/unavailable by the time I could afford one. The Not-for-profit Raspberry Pi foundation comes out with a better version of the zero for a nominal increase, and people whine. I think a lot of folks are improperly using Pi's for commercial purposes and should either get jobs with viable companies or learn how to design similar systems on their own.
Anyone know if its possible to add an external antenna to the pi zero w? I saw something to add one on a pi3 to do this but can't find it.jamesh wrote:It would be nice to buy a new Tesla ...hippy wrote:...bensimmo wrote:£9.50 is not a lot to pay for the convenience of integrated WiFi/BT
A particular advantage is a Zero W can be a USB peripheral while using WiFi/BT.

The only things which would make it better for me are an external antenna connector ( for which there seems to be solder pads already ), and battery / power management capabilities on-board.

That is a good question - the antenna pin was not routed out on RPi3.mob-i-l wrote:Can one use the FM radio receiver on the Raspberry Pi Zero W? On the Pi 3 I think the problem was that the FM-antenna was not exposed.
I would actually buy one just to make an FM Radio if its wired upmob-i-l wrote:Can one use the FM radio receiver on the Raspberry Pi Zero W? On the Pi 3 I think the problem was that the FM-antenna was not exposed.

Wasn't that 80k RPi0W in first batch?mikronauts wrote:I believe I read the figure of 80k Zero's since its launch.
not if you can get working USB wifi mini-dongles for less than US$3 shipped (such as on Amazon; i have at least two)geoffr wrote:The cost of adding WiFi using a USB adaptor is usually more than $5. - Nevermind WiFi plus Bluetooth, and you still have your USB port free....
The single USB BUS does not have a Hub attached, which is the same as the previous Zero revisions.kovacsadam07 wrote:Is the gadget mod still works? Or is there a usb hub and in this it's not?

It's an SDIO device.kovacsadam07 wrote:How is the wifi and Bluetooth connected?

Yes I believe you are correct as that is how the 3B is wired:mikronauts wrote:Hmm was there a change?
I thought the WiFi was SDIO, and the BT serial?

The new case fits both Pi0 and Pi0W.linux_author wrote: Q: Is the form factor for zero cases the same? IOW, will a RPi Zero 1.3 case work with the the Zero W?
I believe it's 80K made pre-launch and 25K/week production schedule.mikronauts wrote:I believe I read the figure of 80k Zero's since its launch.
Really hard to say. Last Spring the plan was to make 50K Pi0s per month. There have been some recent comments suggesting that the is now 80K per month. So taking everything said or hinted at, total Pi0 production is probably in the neighborhood of 500K to date.i486 wrote:And how many PiZero?jamesh wrote:12 Million sold.

Micro Center would stop selling them too, as they are brick and morter. They have a tendency to drop products that are variants of a main offering. For example, they droped the A+ rather quickly once the B+ was supplanted by the 2B and the 2B disappeared rather quickly when the 3B appeared.W. H. Heydt wrote:Curiouser and curiouser... Adafruit, the only company that allows on-line orders in the US, isn't listing the non-W Pi Zero at all now. I will be rather disappointed if the advent of the Pi Zero W means that I can no longer get Pi Zeros on this side of The Pond, as I don't live anywhere near a Micro Center.
They were yesterday. But you can order only one of one or the other, but not one of each. Thus, they appear to think that the Pi0 and Pi0W are basically the same product.skspurling wrote: I wonder if cana kit is now selling the plain zero, or just the W variant?
Very approximately about half a million.i486 wrote:And how many PiZero?jamesh wrote:12 Million sold.
I will depend on the case, so no they may not fit.W. H. Heydt wrote:The new case fits both Pi0 and Pi0W.linux_author wrote: Q: Is the form factor for zero cases the same? IOW, will a RPi Zero 1.3 case work with the the Zero W?
