Hello everyone!
Just received the email yesterday afternoon that I was selected to attend Picademy Mountain View in February. I can't explain how excited I am. I teach IT Hardware at a high school in Wichita KS and to be honest, I am a total NOOB! I look forward to working with everyone.

Thanks everyone for checking in! We're really excited to meet all of you. In case you didn't see it already: today President Obama and the White House OSTP have provided more details on their Computer Science for All initiative. In fact, it was the subject of the President's Weekly Address today.

I'm especially interested in talking about how Raspberry Pi can be used in the library environment. There's so much great stuff happening in US libraries right now.

Thanks for setting up that list! I'm already seeing a lot of excitement about Picademy on Twitter.

It's good to see other public library staff attending. I manage a dedicated makerspace at one of the Harris County Public Libraries in Houston, Texas. I'm looking forward to learning more about the RPi and bringing back some new ideas for my classes and programs.
I was at an outreach event last night in Houston and got some envious looks when I mentioned I'd been accepted to Picademy...

Connecting around logistics to Pi Academy

As I make travel plans I know I'm looking to keep expenses down, and I'm sure there are others who might also.
I started a Google Doc that has a place where Pi Academy folks can share information that might help with carpools to and from airport, hotels, etc and other logistics. The doc has a place to exchange other contact info around the event.

If you are the type of person that likes to split the cost on cabs, hotel accomodations, or perhaps just carpool, this might be helpful as we plan.

If you click on the link below and request access (just put a note in the doc indicating your attending PI Academy and I'll add you to the Edit rights of the Doc.

I, too, an a noob! ;)

Several times I've moved forward into the world of Pi... each time encountering barriers getting the display up and running.

Although I have at times, moved past the barriers to getting out of the gate with the display.. it took so long to get there.. I usually got pulled away to other projects.

So I've decided.. this time.. I'm going to stick it through and document my journey..

Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

FYI I actually live just south of San Jose, which is pretty close to Mountain View. I'm happy to help out with rides as long as I have the room. Uber is also widely available in the San Jose / Mountain View area. I'll add my info to the Google Doc.

Looking forward to meeting up with everyone! I've busted my Pi out again - I have acquired several over the years. One is running OpenElec and is my media hub (running Plex Media server for our DVDs, and has a TV Tuner card as well for our live TV). Another B is in the garage to play around with the GPIO and Sonic Pi, and a third B+ is inside a fake security camera with picamera set up. I'm looking forward to getting the Pi into KIDS' hands, though, and seeing what we come up with!

It's harder than I expected to fly from Houston to the SF Bay Area. I'll need a few hours to consider the benefits of Picademy before pulling the trigger - not much time to decide, though!

SFO and SJC are closest. You could also fly into OAK, but that's a bit further.

Soooo excited, tickets are booked! My flight comes in at 1:45 I believe, I think I'm going to get a shuttle to hotel since it looks like car rentals start out at $100 a day! Insane! I plan to uber back and forth unless someone lives in the area and can pick or drop me off. Also I teach Science in Arcadia, CA and we just started our weekly Hack the Pi series, where students basically get to create various projects using python etc.

Great to read this thread.

I'm really looking forward to meeting our first US Picademy cohort at the end of the month.

The team has got a brilliant programme lined up for you and I know we're going to learn a huge amount from everyone involved.

See you soon.

Hi Everyone,

I am so excited to attend and start up with this amazing professional network. I am the Head of Upper School (grades 6-9) in a private school in CT. I also teach a tech course as an adjunct professor. I am really excited about learning a lot especially around finding ways to enhance our computer science program at my school.

I am presenting at the NAIS conference in San Francisco on Friday, February 26. Is anyone attending that? If so, I'd love to meet up either on Thursday night or Friday.

See you all soon!

Looking forward to meeting everybody and learning a lot! I've got my Raspberry Pi up and running in my classroom and eager to learn more about using it and helping my kids design projects and write programs for it. Right now they are very intrigued by the text-based operating system--to them it's all "hacking!"which is very cool and mysterious.
