Laika - a USB expander module

Mon Jul 15, 2013 1:31 pm

This is a very interesting new add-on board for the RPi
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/eig ... i-robotics

The main difference between this one and others is that it connected via USB and not via GPIO.

This gives several advantages - not least being that it can be used with both the RPi and PCs which makes it very attractive for classroom use.

The project looks great, hopefully word will spread and it will reach it's target. The inventors kit looks like a great package for the education market.

I've been looking for something like this... I have dockstars, pogoplugs, DD-WRT routers with USB and I can see a lot of potentially useful application for a device like this. I've seen some projects involving old DD-WRT routers being used as brains for web controlled toy cars, and since this allows one to use USB as an interface for controlling I/O, it would enable old devices like my dockstar as brains for a small robot device...

Good news, Laika hit their KS with a little over two days remaining.
