Class 4 SDHC = doesn't work

Sat Dec 29, 2012 8:40 pm

I have a spare 4Gb SDHC Class 4 card but when I use it in any of my Pi's the boot log starts to get corrupted and the OS never completes the boot.

Is this because a Class 4 card is too slow?

My main card is a 8Gb Class 6 and it boots every time no problem.

What are the recommended speeds for SD cards for use with the Pi?

Also, would this card be ok for the Pi?

Sorry for double post but I couldn't find the EDIT option.

SD cards are hit and miss. Did you check out the verified peripherals list here:

I have only tested Sandisk cards and found two different Ultra ones that work. One of them is an older Class2 so that is not your problem. I have another Sandisk plain jane card that does kind of what you are seeing.
