MS Arc wireless keyboard

Hi, hoping someone can help out a complete noob. When I say "complete", I've never used the Pi or Linux before.

I'm using my Raspberry Pi for the first time, and am having an infuriating problem with the keyboard. I'm using a Microsoft Arc wireless keyboard. The keyboard seems to be both over- and under-sensitive; sometimes it takes several presses to get a character to type, other times one press causes the character to repeat loads of times.

As this is a new keyboard, I'm assuming there's something wrong with the way it's set up.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I googled around a bit and found this review on lifehacker: http://gizmodo.com/5459763/microsoft-ar ... ard-review

It mentions: "Hard to type on for long periods of time: keys have weird sensitivities and the arrow key is hard to use", so perhaps it's not a software problem. Best thing to do is probably test it with another pc. If the same thing happens with another pc, it's the keyboard, if not, it's a configuration issue.

Thanks for that; I'll test it on my desktop PC and see if it has the same issues on that. It's pretty much unusable on the Pi - frustrating because that's the only thing stopping me from getting going.
I see a cheap generic keyboard in my future :D

You are using a keyboard with know problems on the raspberry pi. Many wireless keyboards draw too much power and result in what is termed "sticky keys". Microsoft wireless keyboards are notoriously bad in this regard. This problem is further enhanced by poor power supplies:

Arc wireless - Keyboard has 'sticky' keys. (B)

Consult the list of hardware that works / does not work here:

Either pick a wireless that works, or if you don't really need wireless, get one of wired keyboards for much less chance of wasting your money.

Thanks for the list. Genius KB-06XE is on the list, which is nice seeing as I've just bought one from Maplins for a tenner literally minutes before seeing your post. I've still got the receipt for the MS Arc, so I'll go and see if PC World will take it back. If not, there's always ebay...
