How / what to backup / image for a "run OS on" SSD drive?

Fri Jan 24, 2020 2:09 pm

Having put many helpful people through hoops getting my boot from SD card, run on an SSD hard drive issues with my RP4B sorted (see earlier post re not being able to resize HD partition) I am now wondering how to back up the whole setup, preferably as an image? Do i need to have a copy of the existing card and the SSD? Are there potential problems if I had to replace a faulty SSD or SD card with a different one?

Finally, if the firmware changes are forthcoming to make booting direct from a hard drive with an RP4 will i have to start afresh or might there be a way of continuing to run the present SSD with all data and the OS intact?

Thank you!

It's a good idea to also backup the SD card periodically.

This should not pose a problem if you have backups.
