Bluetooth Data Logging Project

Mon Sep 09, 2019 3:27 am

Hello everyone, I am interested in conducting a data logging system via Bluetooth. The basic premise of the project consists of a Raspberry Pi Zero W receiving data from accelerometers (ADXL345) via Bluetooth (HC - 05 Bluetooth Module).

As my knowledge with this is fairly new, I would like to know if these components be compatible with one another? If it isn't, can anybody point me in the right direction?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

The Bluetooth components of both the RPi Zero W and the HC - 05 module should have no problems talking with each other.

If you aim for Bluetooth Low Energy advertisement telegrams, then bluepy for Python could be of use to you.

If you aim for paired Bluetooth connections, then of course Python can do that too.

No problem communicating between a Pi and an HC-05, although BLE is not an option.

However, from what I can see, communications between an ADXL345 and an HC-05 may be a problem. I notice Adafruit has an ADXL345 breakout board, but only with I2C / SPI interfaces. The HC-05 requires a serial interface.

What about the Adafruit Bluefruit LE SPI Friend
https://www.adafruit.com/product/2633

It has SPI interface, but maybe only for accessing the Bluetooth chip, and not for collecting data as OP wants?
