USB gps problem

Fri Jan 06, 2017 12:40 am

Hi everyone I'm trying to use Raspberry Pi 2 as navigation system. I installed Navit and I bought an usb gps module. (U-blox 7 VK-172)
Gps is paired as ttyACM0 so I try this command for work gps with gpsd:
sudo gpsd /dev/ttyACM0 -F /var/run/gpsd.sock

Now I have a problem,sometimes it works perfectly (rarely) but sometimes Navit doesn't recive the signal.. What is the problem?

Difficult to tell. Are you sure that the GPS has a good position fix?

You can use cgps or xgps as test clients for gpsd to get more detailed info about the gps and its lock state.

Install via sudo apt-get install gpsd-clients python-gps

I test the gps using minicom, GPS seems to work but navit doesn't recive the signal. Also the usb doungle's led doesn't blink

You should check with cgps to see if you get the data. If not, your problem is with gpsd (and we can dig).

You can also try to configure Navit to read directly from the device and bypass gpsd :

Code: Select all

 <vehicle name="Direct" enabled="yes" source="file://dev/ttyACM0" active="1"/>
(more details at http://wiki.navit-project.org/index.php ... le_Options )

I've already configured Navit, now I try with cgps and I'll give you updates
