downloading software

Mon Jul 16, 2012 5:31 pm

We're in the process of downloading the software for the SD card.

We've successfully downloaded Debian6-19-04-2012zip,
Win32diskimager (ver0.5), and
MD5 & SHA Checksum Utility.

We cannot find a download site for SHA-1 Checksum (1852df83a11ee7083ca0e5f3fb41f93ecc59b1c8) which is apparently needed to verify the Debian6 image.

Please could anyone help we 'very new to computing' novices?

(I've not done this myself but I will guess I am correct)

1. You need to open up the Checksum utility
2. Select the Debian .zip file using the 'Browse' button
3. Then paste in the hash key (that really long code of gobbledygook)
4. Then click verify.

If they match your Debian file is not corrupt.

You don't need to do this to get it working but it allows you to rule out a corrupt file if you encounter any problems later on.
