plan9 support for 3B+

Fri Apr 13, 2018 2:32 am

FYI. Richard Miller has added support for 3B+ to 9pi. From his email to the 9fans list:
Apart from 3B+ support (including firmware files for the new wifi chip), this update should make some improvement on all Pi models: slightly faster usb and ethernet, corrections for a few very old Plan 9 bugs flushed out by the Go test suite, and some extra crypto support for better interoperability with modern hosts using ssh and hget.
The new image is available from

Hardly any plan9 users checks this forum so if you plan to use plan9, you may wish to join the 9fans mailing list. See https://9p.io/wiki/plan9/mailing_lists/.

Replace cmdline.txt in the DOS partition with cmdline-term.txt and reboot.

Right-button click on the desktop, select 'New' from the menu that pops up (it's the default), then hold down the right button again and sweep out a rectangle.

With the default setup the screen shows the "rio" window manager. See https://9p.io/wiki/plan9/Using_rio/index.html. When you create window in rio as Richard (9pi) says, your "shell" in the window is rc. You can look up its manpage on http://man.cat-v.org/plan_9/1/rc. You can also explore other man pages (click on 1/ or other section numbers in the left pane). Acme is the editor. You can look up its man page in the same place but there are some youtube videos that may be more more useful. If you want to go beyond basic stuff, explore the site Richard pointed you at.
