MAME4All Only recognizes first 16 inputs with GP-Wiz 40

Fri Jan 31, 2014 2:14 am

Raspberry Pi Model B
OC Turbo
PiMAME 0.7.10
MAME4All
RCA Video Out
GP-Wiz 40MAX

Basically, it is as it sounds- MAME4All will only recognize the first 16 inputs off of the GP-Wiz 40 MAX. Using evtest, all the buttons I have wired in (23 of them) are detected. However, in MAME4All's key mapping feature, only the first 16 buttons are usable- the rest give no input that MAME4All recognizes. Any ideas on what I can do?

Thank you,
BPLis

Have you tested the GP-wiz on devices other than the R-Pi? Are you using a USB hub? Are you using a good quality power supply?

Works Flawlessly on my Laptop w/ Fedora 20 and GMAMEUI. No, I do not have a powered USB hub, though I do not believe this is an issue, as the first 16 inputs work in MAME, and all inputs are recognized by the OS itself, proven by running evtest. It looks like I get the same results in AdvanceMAME as well. Not to mention that earlier, without the GP-WIZ plugged in, I had a USB WIFI dongle and Keyboard plugged in without issue. Good, high quality 1A PSU. Oh, and I get the same results after disabling the overclock.

Do you have a digital multimeeter? If you do check voltage between tp1 and tp2 on the R Pi.

I don't have any exp with the gp-wiz I use KADE so I'm kinda guessing.

I have a multimeter, though it is not digital. the voltage out of the PSU itself is 5.1V. Ill check on the Pi itself, though I do feel that this is not the issue, as per all the reasons previously mentioned.

Ok- I don't know if my Multimeter is broken or what but it is giving me a reading of roughly 6.05V, yet my Pi is functioning fine. With the exception of that one specific USB device.

I am now running PiPlay 0.8.0 beta 3 and my issue has not been resolved (yes, my multimeter was broken). There are No issues with the power (5.1V steady). I do believe it to be a configuration issue of some sort within advmame and mame4all for the pi. (I have no roms for the other systems, so no way to test if it affect them as well). Any idea how to get around and/or solve this issue?

Hi there!

I use a gp-wiz 40 too and I have no issue with it in PiFBA/PiSNES and main menu of piplay (7.1 and 8.3 or 8.7, i don't remember) with 25-26 input.
So i guess it could be à problem of mame4all...

Hi pal,
Check the source code of mame4all https://code.google.com/p/mame4all-pi/s ... ut.cpp#470

It's hardcoded you can only have 16 buttons per joy.

You can modify just few lines in order to have more button support.

Bye.

Hey, can you post a new link to that code? When I follow it, it is no longer avaliable.

Thanks,
Grant

I am also still having this issue with my controller. At one point I believe there to have been a patch for the 16 button cap. Does anyone have the patch and/or know how to change the source file? I will see what I can do, but I doubt if I will be able to fix it.
