Re: 01/16 UltraSlim = Retro/Gaming/Q3|XBMC 12/13|Desktop + m

Mon Sep 29, 2014 8:11 pm

Just tried on my Model B+
20140929_210147.jpg
20140929_210147.jpg (46.6 KiB) Viewed 6094 times
Works for me! My issue before this very kind update from rromo12 was that it wouldn't detect a keyboard upon first boot (and thus couldn't start the install process, so thumbs were twiddled) I love the short boot time (except the video, but that can be changed)

Only thing missing is the latest EmulationStation GUI <3

Superb image! :)

Hey Thanks for the image I will give it a try.

Does anyone have a tutorial how to insatall this to USB rather than an SD card. Will this work with Berryboot with the tutorial on their website?

Thanks for the image for B+ model. Now I can use Raspberry like I want.
Its love.

Any one knows how to take away the startup movie?
Kinda not like its loud sound and the kids want to see the movie fast. So.

you must only delete or rename the intro in the /media folder!
on the next boots it will screen a little fail to load the video but it still works and boot :-)
this is on of the first things i make after install ultraslim!

or you can still replace it with another video....

BattleGear Thank you.
Another thing I cant find a fix for on my on, is how I can calibrate the video resolution on Emulationstation.
The thing is that on my left side on the screen the text is a cm or two outside of my screen.

In xbmc I easily fix that with the video calibration tool.
But I cant find the solution in Emulationstation.

Any clue.

this page should help you:

http://elinux.org/RPiconfig#Video

you must edit the boot config...

look for overscan... under the video resolutions.

Hi folks,

First of all, congrats for the great job. Fantastic.

Well my problem is in the configs options of Retroarch.

I set my controls e video resolution (custom), save the changes (all via F1) but everytime I exit the emulator all my configs are erased and come back to default.

What am I missing here? The config inside the emulator doesnt work? Should I do different?

Thanks in advance!!!

THANKS!!! for the B+ version of this!!!

Successfully got a GUI wireless configuration going for the XBMC 12.3 environment and wanted to share.
Tried the old XBMCbuntu Dharma/Eden Wireless Manager and it worked! (NOT network-manager based)
I now have UltraSlim1.6B+ with EZ WiFi config from XBMC GUI :)

shell:
sudo apt-get purge network-manager network-manager-gnome
sudo apt-get install wicd-curses

in XBMC12.3 GUI:
Programs -> Get More -> Install from ZIP -> xbmc.script.linux.wireless-11.0.0.zip

A quick search and you should be able to find "xbmc.script.linux.wireless-11.0.0.zip"
I haven't tried this on Gotham yet, but you may be able to edit the addon.xml python version (2.1.0) to get it to install, or manually extract into .xbmc/addons.

EDIT: Modifying addon.xml python version 2.1.0 for Wireless Manger worked in XBMC Gotham 13.x

If you just want to update xbmc just download from link below:
Raspbmc-12.3-Final.tar.gz and rename it to xbmc-rbp-14-20140505.tar.gz and put it in your /home/pi folder and run scrip: sudo su.. updatexbmc and ta da final build of gotham. Couldnt get the xbmc-rbp-14-20140505.tar.gz from guide to launch but no matter. Better just get the final version.

http://mirrors.arizona.edu/raspbmc/down ... nightlies/

sorry if someone already pointed this out :oops: hope this helps someone atleast :|

I ended up manually creating a tar.gz from raspbmc 13.2 Gotham.
Here's how I did it:

-Installed "raspbmc-final.img.gz" to SD, powered on the Pi, and quit to shell/terminal.

- Deleted the Rasbmc Settings and Browser AddOns from XBMC
sudo rm -rf /opt/xbmc-bcm/xbmc-bin/share/xbmc/addons/script.raspbmc.settings
sudo rm -rf /opt/xbmc-bcm/xbmc-bin/share/xbmc/addons/script.raspbmc.browserlaunch

- Replaced the 'R' pi raspbmc Splash Screen with XBMC 13.2 Gotham Splash
cd /mysplashlogoDIR
sudo cp -avr Splash.png /opt/xbmc-bcm/xbmc-bin/share/xbmc/media

- Created tar.gz from xbmc-bcm directory on raspbmc
cd /opt
sudo tar -zcvf xbmc-rbp-13-2-20141031.tar.gz xbmc-bcm
sudo mv xbmc-rbp-13-2-20141031.tar.gz /home/pi

Now with the latest raspbmc 13.2 Gotham in tar.gz format, upgraded XBMC on UltraSlim.
-Copy previously created 'xbmc-rbp-13-2-20141031.tar.gz' to /home/pi
sudo apt-get install libxslt1.1
sudo su
updatexbmc

Can you post XBMC 13.2 Gotham tar file please so i can download it
By thinking like an engineer you can create a raspberry pi.

I got the PI model B, B+ and PI 2 model B.
When will I get the A? I don't know.

For those of you who want to update XBMC on their current UltraSlim, here's the 'xbmc-rbp-13-2-20141031.tar.gz'
I ripped it straight from 'raspbmc-final.img.gz' (XBMC 13.2 Gotham 10-31-2014)
You can use the same updatexbmc procedure to install (Don't forget libxslt1.1)
*EDIT* Changed default music player to OMXPlayer in 'advancedsettings.xml'
http://www.mediafire.com/download/b0un3 ... 031.tar.gz

For those of you looking for the wicd-curses based Wireless Manager for XBMC, here are the install ZIPs
Frodo & Gotham versions included, Installation of wicd-curses required (sudo apt-get install wicd-curses)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/4prvv ... curses.zip

NOTE: The Wireless Manager isn't really visible if using a Skin other than Confluence.
It still works, but it's too transparent and difficult to select the options.
If struggling to use Wireless Manager, temporarily go back to Confluence Skin.

What's the latest stable XBMC 13.2 Gotham build for the Pi?
Can you recommend?

I assumed the 13.2 Gotham that came with raspbmc-final.img.gz was stable. Is it not?
The xbmc-rbp-13-2-20141031.tar.gz I made from it is working fine for me on UltraSlim1.6B+ so far...

Anyone else care to chime in here?

Here is an XBMC based version of UltraSlim_1.6.13_B+ I threw together.
UltraSlimXBMC_1.6.13_B+
*EDIT* Changed XBMC's default Music Player to OMXPlayer + added "USBs" Samba Share that's linked to '/media/'
http://www.mediafire.com/download/h3k7b ... 6.13_B+.7z

It has everything previously mentioned, but loads XBMC by default instead of EmulationStation
XBMC additions include Transparency Skin, and backgrounds I found visually appealing.
Wireless Manager for wicd-curses is installed, but seems to only be visible in *Confluence Skin.
Transmission and Wireless Manager Install.ZIPs located in /Home/Pi/XBMC/addons-Gotham if needed.
Exiting XBMC will load EmulationStation.

YES. This has XBMC 13.2 Gotham ripped from raspbmc-final.img as previously mentioned.
Want to change versions of XBMC? -> sudo su -> updatexbmc with any desired 'xbmc-rbp-*.tar.gz' (12 or 13)
Want to wipe XBMC settings/profile? -> delete the '.xbmc' directory in /Home/Pi (while XBMC is closed)
Want to startup EmulationStation instead of XBMC? edit /home/pi/startup -> comment (#) xbmc.sh line

MAJOR THANKS to Takenover83 for doing all the hard work.
MAJOR THANKS to Rionoskae for his Complete Guide to UltraSlim.
MAJOR THANKS to rromo12 for the 'B+' version of UltraSlim.

I had issues playing Music on any 13.x XBMC Gotham i tried on UltraSlim1.6.x.
I had to change default players from PAPlayer to OMXPlayer to get it working normally.
If you want to change the Default Audio Player, modify the advancedsettings.xml:

sudo nano /opt/xbmc-bcm/xbmc-bin/share/xbmc/system/advancedsettings.xml

My advancedsettings.xml now looks like this:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/w56394755 ... ttings.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<advancedsettings>
<video>
<defaultplayer>omxplayer</defaultplayer>
<defaultdvdplayer>dvdplayer</defaultdvdplayer>
</video>
<audio>
<defaultplayer>omxplayer<defaultplayer>
</audio>

</advancedsettings>

13.2Gotham.tar.gz and 1.6.13IMGs above have been updated to include this modification.

Take- got a nee problem. my ex fat4 Drive is loaded under root. I can access the drive with a sudo file server, and xbmc , sorry KODI, sees it just fine. I would like it with full permissions-(I don't worry about security) the fstab says 'defaults'. what am I missing??

You could add a permissions line in the /Home/Pi/startup script.
- this would allow all permissions for all usb's

sudo chmod -R 777 /media

Return to “Gaming”
