Can't exit emulation station/retro arch

Thu Feb 28, 2013 12:20 am

Hi Guys,

I can't seem to exit roms once I launch them. Escape does not work. Once booted up F4 does return me to the console, but as soon as I start a game I just can't go back to the emulator select screen. I have to turn the power off to my pi. I've looked in the config and everything looks fine. Any idea what may be causing this?

Thanks

Edit: Also I think I should mention the controls in the emu are fine (movement, X,Z,A,S, etc.) so it's not the keyboard (as I've seen in a couple of other threads)

I had this problem once and I just remapped the quit-key. So you just go to src/InputManager.cpp(before you compile RetroArch/RetroPie) and change the line "if(event->key.keysym.sym == SDLK_F4 && keyDown)". All indications without warranty.

Are you using a recent version of retroarch?

If so you don't need to recompile to get this - it's a config option.

For example, I have my setup configured where I'm playing NES games, my "Select" button is button #8, and my left-right axis on the D-pad is mapped to axis "0".

So, the following two lines tell the emulator to exit when I press "Left + Select"

Code: Select all

input_enable_hotkey_axis = "-0"
input_exit_emulator_btn = 8
You have to lookup the button and axis mappings to figure out exactly what to do for your controller, but here's a full retroarch.cfg file, just to show it in context:

I'm not using a controller, nor did I compile it myself, I downloaded the image with RetroPie already installed

I got it working with just using a different Keyboard. The one that't not working is from Apple. Maybe I've choosen the wrong settings. With a cheap Keyboard from "Cherry" it works. Give it a try ;)

I've tried with a new keyboard and it still won't work, I've edited retroarch.cfg in /etc/ and also tried the ones for individual emulators and still I can't exit games. I've even tried reassigning the keys. It seems to me retroarch isn't even looking at the configs.
