How do I install roms for retropie

Wed Oct 26, 2016 2:15 am

I know that this is probably a basic question, but I am new to this kind of thing. I can't figure out how to get the roms for any games on retropie. Thank you

Stick the rom file or zip file into /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/EMULATOR_NAME
e.g.

Code: Select all

sudo mv Downloads/mario.zip RetroPie/roms/nes/
That should work.

There are a couple options the first one is like the previous post. However there is another way that once setup is much easier.

go into the retropie settings and make sure usb rom copy service is set to on. Then do the following:

USB stick

(ensure that your USB is formatted to FAT32)
first create a folder called retropie on your USB stick
plug it into the pi and wait for it to finish blinking
pull the USB out and plug it into a computer
add the roms to their respective folders (in the retropie/roms folder)
plug it back into the raspberry pi
wait for it to finish blinking
refresh emulationstation by pressing F4, or choosing quit from the start menu

This is by far the easiest method. And the only one I use.

And of you are on a windows PC, like me.
You just type \\RETROPIE into the address and bobs your uncle you can transfer files and edit setting very easily.

My son found all this out following the Retropie installation instructions, which leads you to https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki and there under getting started tells you all of this.

Still we've given up trying to get WiiMotes/classic controller working on Retropie and pi3.
