Bluetooth Woes

Sun Mar 17, 2013 8:57 pm

So, I wanted to make my pi an A2DP Sink, I have been following mainly monkey houses tutorial http://kmonkey711.blogspot.de/ ; so here are the details for my adaptor

Code: Select all

lsusb
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0424:9512 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0424:ec00 Standard Microsystems Corp.
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 0a12:0001 Cambridge Silicon Radio, Ltd Bluetooth Dongle (HCI mode)
its a cheap bluetooth module, I cracked it open its a CSR Chip based module ( The datasheet is locked by CSR themselves) I am more of an low level hardware EE than CSE.

anyways, I know the bluetooth service is running

Code: Select all

/etc/init.d/bluetooth status
[ ok ] bluetooth is running.
but when I scan It doesn't show any of the devices not my laptop or any of my mobiles (2x Nokia E71 and a Samsung S3)

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi // $ hcitool scan
Scanning ...
pi@raspberrypi // $ sudo hcitool scan
Scanning ...

Anything I am doing wrong ?

When I try to establish a connection with my phone ( The problem in pairing that works and yes I have added to trusted

Code: Select all

bluez-test-device trusted XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX yes
) it fails "Connection could not be established".

Any help or insights on what I am doing wrong would be appreciated!!

I had this issue too. For me the solution was to plug the bluetooth USB device directly into the Pi's USB port instead of an external hub. Check the system log for device timeout messages.

The bluetooth is plugged directly into the pi's usb port and not via a hub.

If you apt-get install blueman it will be under Preferences in lxde menu "bluetooth maanger"
