Buster & Pi4: Same Image on Different RAM Size OK?

Thu Jun 27, 2019 9:18 pm

Since the 4GB board in made of Unobtainium here locally, if I get a 2GB Pi and do all the configuration and installation can I just transfer the SD card and USB-C disk to a 4GB board when I can get one? [I use the USB SSD for post-boot storage, the SD card is just for booting.]

My specific worry is there might be space reserved for a memory image on the disk and it would not work correctly on a 4GB device.

I did a search and didn't find this addressed, so I apologize if this is already asked and answered.

Thanks.

Should be fine, but I wouldn't recommend using the USB-C port for a disk. Apart from being the power connector, it is USB2 only. Much better to connect a disk to one of the two USB3 ports.

My error, I meant USB 3. I had fantasies of Thunderbolt appearing on the Pi 4.

Yes, absolutely. There's nothing RAM-specific in the setup.
