Issues after upgrading to jessie

Sun Oct 11, 2015 3:57 am

Hey everyone, I'm having the following issues after upgrading to jessie from wheezy on my Raspberry Pi 2.
1. Edits to /etc/resolv.conf are not sticking after reboot. I set nameserver 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 but after reboot it reverts to default nameserver 192.168.1.1

2. Transmission rpc won't connect after upgrading. I followed the Raspberry Pi Torrentbox tutorial and got transmission daemon to run, and transmission rpc to connect, but after rebooting the Pi 2 I lose connection with transmission rpc and can’t remotely connect. I believe the daemon is active because sudo service transmission-daemon status shows:

Code: Select all

pi@raspberrypi ~ $ sudo service transmission-daemon status
transmission-daemon.service - Transmission BitTorrent Daemon
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/transmission-daemon.service; enabled)
Active: active (running) since Sat 2015-10-10 12:52:24 EDT; 1min 30s ago
Main PID: 441 (transmission-da)
Status: "Uploading 0.00 KBps, Downloading 0.02 KBps."
CGroup: /system.slice/transmission-daemon.service
└─441 /usr/bin/transmission-daemon -f --log-error

If I execute the command:

Code: Select all

sudo service transmission-daemon stop
then

Code: Select all

sudo service transmission-daemon start
Transmission rpc will be able to connect remotely again. I’ve tried a fresh install thinking it was a update issue coming from wheezy, but problem still persist.

3. Kodi performance has degraded dramatically on jessie. Playing video of all resolution now stutters and audio will cut in and out throughout play. Audio will now also go out of sync while playing. I've also had to enable overscan twice already because settings got reset after a reboot, or start up. Kodi will also lockup when I turn up/down the volume through my TV remote through CEC... The other control functions like pause, play, rewind and fwd works fine, but volume adjustment will cause kodi to freeze and requires power cord pull.

My boot/config

Code: Select all

arm_freq=1000
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=483
over_voltage=0
gpu_mem=320
force_turbo=1
avoid_pwm_pll=1
v3d_freq=300
4. I can't get a smb network share to auto mount at start up,but It will mount when I manually mount with

Code: Select all

sudo mount - a
Any suggestions on these issues?
Thanks

I can only tell something about kodi on Jessie. For me it's working very snappy and I've got not problems whatsoever.
If video is lagging, select omxplayer in Video/Acceleration and disable MMAL.
BTW, gpu_mem=320 is a complete overkill and will only take away valuable RAM from the CPU side. 160 MB is good enough to run kodi (and everything else).
I've published my first Jessie version of kodi-15.2RC3 today. Perhaps you should try that.
Minimal Kiosk Browser (kweb)
Slim, fast webkit browser with support for audio+video+playlists+youtube+pdf+download
Optional fullscreen kiosk mode and command interface for embedded applications
Includes omxplayerGUI, an X front end for omxplayer

I will give your kodi version a try. I will also adjust the memory split,and give the omxplayer adjustment a try too... I plan on using the Pi 2 headless and won't be using omxplayer at all, so can I just remove it?

Thanks for the information

Kodi on a headless RPi? That doesn't make sense to me.

I meant I don't plan on using the desktop environment, or anything else except kodi, and as a always on torrent box. So I guess it's not really 'headless- since it's hooked up to the TV lol. Wrong usage... My bad

Why not just use OpenElec or OSMC if you only need the KODI Media Centre Software :?:

I use flexget heavily with transmission and while you can compile openelec to be able to install flexget, there's not a lot of options for other things.

Might try Osmc... Have to look more into how well it runs with core programs I use

The Raspbian Jessie repository now has KODI 15.1
