jessie: gedit doesn't use fixed width font?

Fri Oct 02, 2015 3:50 pm

i installed gedit in jessie and it always uses a variable width font.
of course i checked "preferences -> font & colors" and tried different settings there but nothing changed. it doesn't use the system fixed width font "monospace 11" and also if i try to set fonts like "droid sans mono" nothing changes.

anyone else with that problem? is there any fix for this?

i am trying to use my raspberry pi 2 for some web programming and gedit is interesting for me because of its "external tools" plugin which can be used for automating certain tasks like sass->css compiling, ftp syncing,...

any suggestions for other good text editors? :)

I used to use gedit on my Debian laptop, but dropped it when Gnome became all bloaty and unusable. I switched to Geany and after a bit of tweaking am very happy with it :)

Gedit issues confirmed here. The new interface is hideously useless so I'm going to be using Geany anyway . . .

I just installed Gedit on a fresh Raspbian for the Pi 2. And I cant change the font. I installed the font i want as ttf in ~/.fonts/

Here is the weird thing, when I start it form the command line "sudo gedit" then I can select fonts but not when I just start Gedit by clicking the icon.

That is my experience too. I didn't think that "sudo gedit" would behave differently than just "gedit." Sometimes I want to make a quick change to a file and gedit is the first tool I reach for. It's annoying that it isn't using the font specified in the preferences, as the default font is difficult to read for coding.

Does anyone have any ideas if there are any settings files that don't have the right permissions, or aren't present for the "pi" account?
