With the Zero especially being so crazily inexpensive, it really does make sense to keep one or two extra around "on spec", just in case a project pops up in the middle of the night. Only 5 of my 8 Pi's are on 24/7. Still toying with the idea of getting 4-8 Zeros and a hub, and making a cluster with which to, uh, conduct important experiments.

We're not partying or making a particularly big fuss about it - but you can bet we'll be making a fuss when we hit 13m, which will mean Raspberry Pi will have outsold the Commodore 64, to become the biggest selling home computing platform outside the Mac and the PC. Already rubbing my hands together in anticipation.

I'll be ordering up some more, to help you reach that target, when I next get paid (Friday) :-)

I've already got more Raspberries than I have ever had any other make/model of computer - even the BBC Model Bs, of which I had a fair collection.

If it stays linear, you won't be wearing your Hawaiian shirt to the barbie: end April I make it, but likely sooner than that if there's a continued upwards trend.

At the present rate: Five months, so the end of April. Could be slower--holiday time off from the factories--or faster--as more and more people learn about Pis.

Factory shut-downs won't affect sales - there's enough buffer stock in the supply chain to cover that.

If my math is right, you're going to have to buy 5 Pis per year to keep up.

An "official" plot of sales was part of the RS press conference during the recent RPF mission to Japan.

Plot extrapolated forwards to predict 20-22 million by September 2018 :o

Now that 12.5 million sales have been registered, there has appeared an official Pi chart (gerrit) of sales by model, published at https://www.raspberrypi.org/magpi/raspberry-pi-sales/

Figures for Zero interesting - knocking on for 500k Zeros, plus in excess of 100k ZeroW already.

Interesting that QuadCore Pi ( pi2+3) now account for > 50% of total Pi's

Model A/A+ shows 5% of 12.5m ...so 600k
and as you say, 600k of Pi Zero

"Official" chart:

Some interesting stats from an interview with eben at betanews:

https://betanews.com/2017/07/19/raspber ... -upton-qa/

Model breakdown:
  • Model B: 3 million units.
  • Model B+: 2 million units.
  • Model 2B: 3 million units.
  • Model 3B: 5 million units.
  • Others: 1-2 million units.
Now nearly 15 million total, with 10 million Raspberry Pi produced in the UK factory.

So a graph:

Other includes the A, A+, zero and zero W, Am I right in thinking this doesn't include the compute module / CM3?

Last time I heard it was 15Millon? whoops 18M in Jan 2018.
Must be very close $18.5M, 19m?
What was the current production rate?
How fast to sell the last 10M?

If the current exponential growth continues the entire planet will have been turned into Raspberry Pi by 2030.

Wow, I'm going into the paper clip business.

In ten minutes I collected a thousand dollars. Borrowing along the way. Then ran out of wire and went bankrupt. Assuming a good chunk of that thousand dollars was my salary I'd call that an excellent result.

Isn't that how startups work now a days ?

:)

And don't forget the guy that wanted to buy a house. He had no money, only a paper clip. He got his house:

Remember son, you can't go wrong with paper clips.
