Easiest way is don't bother about it.

That should get the puritans going....

You could do open heart surgery on the hub or butcher a USB cable if it worries you.

Yep, that will also do it. Just make sure you remove the right pin!

Why does this matter? I didn't see any text in the OP describing why he thinks there's any reason to worry about this.

Like so many other things, cutting the wire seems like a solution in search of a problem...
And some folks need to stop being fanboys and see the forest behind the trees.

(One of the best lines I've seen on this board lately)

I think it puts stress on the polyfuse or something, I think we might need Gert or Dom to comment on this officially though.
The OP was asking how to stop the behaviour, from the title of the post, so we were just giving the answer.

Poundland in the UK sell a small Signalex USB adapter for charging iPhone. That's basically a USB A male to USB A female on a PCB with a flying lead off to the charger connector, all wrapped in a plastic case. You can probably find similar products elsewhere.

Very easy to modify so it's a through connector without Vusb connected, or for injecting external power as a back-feed through the USB ports.

Best idea yet - IF you'll never connect any USB device direct to Pi.

Just run it back-powered. I have been for almost a year now.

Cut the red or the blue? The ever confusing movie question. Of course there are no blue wires in a USB cable!

http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... 41&t=16473

Letting it back-power gives me 5 USB ports. 1 RasPi port, 4 USB hub ports so 5 ports in all. I have two RasPi working this way. A modified ver. 1 256MB and a unmodified ver. 2 512MB. Both have a 2 amp PSU and have been completely reliable!

But since you asked, cut the red wire in the cable from the RasPi USB to the uplink port in your hub. Or open the hub and cut the pin from the board to the connector. Either will work. I have tried stripping the contact out of the connector, it would not peel off. I also covered the pin with some thin tape, that did work.

Good Luck either way you try!

Unless he's doing it to the socket on the hub...
