just stopped working

Sun Jun 23, 2013 6:33 am

Hello

I use the pi to play music from a playlist. It was working fine for 2 days and then it just stopped (i had it working 24x7). The SD is corrupt. This is strange because nobody touched the pi. This has happened 3 times with 3 different pis and 3 different SD cards. Could it be the software on the SD card?

Btw all the lights are on and when i tried to connect it to a hdmi screen it is blank.

Are you booting with the HDMI connected if not it will not display through HDMI.

Is power dropping out? Wireless connection or wired? Need a bit more info on setup. Can you ssh into the Pi when it is non responsive. When rebooted what error are you seeing.

Ok you have resolved my hdmi issue.

The power is fine. I have another pi running the same software in the same location.

I cannot ssh to it when it is in this states. I have not rebooted because i am trying to find a way to see the current state....which does not seem possible.

The other 2 that had this problem gave me an error message 'unable to mount root...'

Any ideas as to why this would happen?

Top two reasons for SD card corruption :

Power supply.
Overclocking.
Don't judge Linux by the Pi.......

Thank you. I doubt it is a power supply issue. I am using Samsung charger. In a stable environment so there is no surcharge or power failure.

I am a little new to this. How can i identify if overclocking is the problem

Have you enabled overclocking? I doubt you'd need it for playing MP3s. If you have re-edit your config to turn it off again and retest.

If that doesn't fix it then do another test with a different power source (just to rule that out too). You could also try a different brand of SD Card to eliminate that possiblity.

Thank you for your replies. It seems as though the corrupt SD cards is common. I found this thread:

Have you shut it down (sudo halt) before unplugging the power supply? Not doing so is a quick route to a toasted SD card.

It was playing music when it just stopped working. I cannot connect to it in any way.

no i am not overclocking.

Are there any default logs that would assist in trying to debug the problem?
