Re: Alpha Board dimensions?

Just curious, what are the x, y, z of the alpha boards (I do realize the boards to ship will be smaller)?

Especially height. What is the height/highest point?

X and Y are no use as they will change. Z is probably the same on the next board.
Height is ~22 mm. That is from the top of the stacked USB to the bottom of the SD-card.

Thanks for the info and yes should hold on until the final boards are ready for X and Y. In any case, the size of a credit/business card means it is about 56 mm x 85 mm (give or take a few mms).

Something I had mentioned earlier in another post: It will be great if on the Model B, the USB ports are laid out side-by-side so that people who remove the RJ45 connector (for whatever reason) can potentially have a slimmer unit. This arrangement can still be compatible with Model A, but I don't know if there is enough horizontal space to lay out the two USB ports side-by-side.

Just a thought.

I'm not sure if there's enough room around the perimeter to do that, but we'll have a look at it.

I am not aware of a single socket for two USB side-by-side. If anybody can point me to a cheap one we will think about it. And before you ask: No we will not go to two single USB sockets as that is more expensive.

I didn't realize it was that hard to find 2xUSB Std A side-by-side sockets. I found 2x micro-usb 3.0 sockets but no Standard As :( . Of course, there are 2xUSB A and RJ45 combo sockets but they don't help. Oh well.

I assume the ~22mm height is for Model B (because you said "stacked USB"). So, what is the height of the Model A?

BTW, in another topic, I had mentioned using an Altoids box as a case for the Raspi. I have just verified that a standards Altoids box is 20mm with lid closed. So, fitting a Model B will require the lid to be carved. But, if no cans get in the way, a Model A might still fit inside an Altoids box.

I don't know. Whichever is the highest connector + ~3mm SD card at the bottom. I think the phono plug is higher than HDMI or single USB-A.
