Is it possible to run a emulated Raspberry Pi within VMWare Fusion on a iMac?

If so, how?

If not, how else could it be done?

VMWare does not (AFAIK) emulate an ARM. You will have to do one of two things:

run a linux distro with qemu-arm on vmware (I think someone has a setup already configured for vmware, does fusion use VMWare workstation images?)
get a copy of qemu-arm for MacOS

It's easier, though, todirectly run qemu on the Mac.

1. Download / install Apple's Xcode. It's freely available in the Mac App Store. If your system is too old and not supported by App Store, download the appropriate Xcode version for your Mac OS X on http://connect.apple.com/ . Registration there is free, you only need your Apple ID.

2. Install the appropriate version of Mac Ports from http://www.macports.org/install.php on your Mac.

3. Open a terminal and type

sudo port install qemu +target_arm

It's gonna install qemu with the arm emulator.

4. You can now use the qemu based packages floating around here in the forums

Not surprising, it's 7 years old!! I think you might win the oldest necro award with this one. I'd suggest Google for more information on this one.
