RPI also stands for Retail Price Index!

Arr - Pee - Eye is three syllables - clearly one too many - you'll be abbreviating the abbreviation to just Arrp at that rate

Which is why raspi works best

"Arrrrrrrr... Pie!

I prefer RasPi (with that capitalization)

I think we need Liz to make an official ruling

I think it's fair to say everyone will accept that ruling

No, that is a flan.  A Pie, to quote Wikipedia (wikipedia.org/wiki/Pie) is:-

"A pie is a baked dish which is usually made of a pastry dough casing that covers or completely contains a filling of various sweet or savoury ingreditents".

I notice also that this page says '"Raspberry Pie" redirects here.  This is not to be confused with Raspeberry Pi'.

I agree and generally use RasPi.  I pronounce it "razz pie" or "rass pie" with equal emphasis on syllables.  IMO "RPi" has too many collisions, especially Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute (Troy, New York).

As far as an official ruling, I expect that there are as many opinions within the Foundation as there are on this thread   I recommend leaving it open and seeing what sticks.

I've been watching/reading the forums for months! of all the posts to finally push me into registering and posting, I can't believe it is his one!!

Anyway.. when talking face to face I say... Raspberry Pi, it is easier and clearer to say out loud0 than any abbreviation when writing though it is....

RasPi

without a doubt!

That's my experience as well, but then most people I talk to aloud about RasPi have never heard of it before

So here in the US we have been eating pumpkin... "flan" each Novembr 25? I thought flan was something I get at a Mexican restaraunt. Oh well...

The official answer to this is ACTUALLY in the FAQ - as is everything

Go to http://www.raspberrypi.org/faqs and scan down to the BUYING AND SHIPPING section and you will see...

BUYING AND SHIPPING

Where can I buy one?

The Raspi will initially only be available to purchase through Premier Farnell/Element 14and RS Components.

And so there we have it - officially its "Raspi" - its the ONLY place on the whole page where the full Raspberry Pi name is not used.

In England, I'm sure the preferred abbreviation will depend on your location:

If you pronounce path, bath, laugh, etc., with a long 'ah', then 'Arr Pie' is probably easier on your ears.

If you're from a region where the correct pronunciation of path, bath and laff with a short 'a' is used, then 'RasPee' or 'RasPie' probably sounds better.

Yes – we each have a hamster in a wheel driving an alternator - getting a reliable 5VDC to the raspi is going to be a bit of an issue though
