Hi, new to this forum. I haven"t ordered a Pi yet but probably will when the initial demand tails off. As a user of iPhone and iPad, I was wondering whether anyone could develop some software to allow Pi users to use the iPad or iPhone as the monitor and keyboard. Would this even be possible?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

obviously I havent tried this but in theory the following should work

xrdp running on RPI (I use this on work on my server in work) this can start graphical env (KDE/Gnome) and opens a port for rdp connections

RDP connections are the type used by windows remote desktop (remote desktop app is in accessories if you have an winXP Pc or newer)

So in theory you could use any RDP app for iOS (again not tested this)

heres one I found with quick google search:

http://itap-mobile.com/itap-rdp

hope that helps

SSH or VNC entirely feasible - do it already from sofa with iPad to office computers.

Likewise here, running CNC machines via PC and linux VNC off the iPad. So see no problem adding Pi to the list of machines on the iPad.

Thanks for your feedback so far. All these suggestions seem to require a network, which I don"t have. I was thinking more along the lines of connecting via the standard Apple USB cable, or perhaps Bluetooth.

Theoretically it is possible to make your tablet into a screen.

You could make an app that communicates with a custom made driver that tells you system that it is a screen and then send all the data to the tablet as if its a screen over usb.

There already are usb touch screens, so it should be possible.

However, all usb screens fully get that data from the cpu, not the gpu not a gpgpu just the cpu and the R-pi probably isnt stong enough for that.

-while im looking for the specs of one of those screens i find this

http://www.displaylink.com/sup.....s_ipad.php

So there already is software for it, but it looks like its via wifi not sure..

I have never used an iPhone/iPad, but I would be very surprised if they did not support adhoc WiFi.

With adhoc WiFi, you just need to spend a few dollars on a WiFi dongle for the Rpi, no other hardware needed.

Thanks. I"ll look into this option. I have a USB wifi dongle on my desktop pc.
