Rather than unboxing, perhaps we could have boxing videos where users create a case and place their Raspberry Pis inside them before starting?

Or boxing videos, where two owners have each bought from Farnell and RS respectively and the only way to settle their arguments over which is better is by Marquis of Queensbury rules?

I feel short changed! How can that be an unboxing video when it's still in it's box!

There are not going to be any unboxing videos anyway.

Liz decided that the Raspberry Pi didn't have a large enough Fun Quotient and they are all just wrapped in bubblewrap and duct tape.

I for one suggest the Foundation use some of their new wealth and send Liz to the Chinese factory with a video camera. I would love to see what the production line looks like!

How much is Robotic, and how much is unskilled labor stuffing components? I suspect not much of the latter with surface mount components.

Can this factory really handle a vertical build ramp (0->100,000 units a month or better)?

Bring us back some Dim Sum?

Or sealed in a yellow plastic lozenge acting as a ruggedized shipping container, which is itself locked inside a bi-chocolate layer as a treat for the kids?

Yesterday day I posted in http://www.raspberrypi.org/for.....-15/page-3

"Farnell UK told me half an hour ago that they'd already shipped 400 Pi's and that they now have 35,000 on order, I suspect the 400 shipped was just the UK but 35,000 sounds low for worldwide but highish for UK only.

Let more rumor & speculation continue!

I'm sure Liz will post the official figures as soon as she get them and I do realize that collating that information can take a while.

If anyone who is lucky enough to be in the first batch and doesn't want to post publicly that they have receive one. If you send me a 'Private Message' I don't mind passing on anonymously that pi's are out in the wild."

The information seems contradictory to Liz's posting

No one has PM'd me yet!

We've got inspectors from both Element 14/Premier Farnell and RS going to the factory today to satisfy themselves about working conditions. We've already sent someone along on our own behalf (we were happy), and I think Broadcom are also sending an observer in at some point - not sure if that's on their behalf, ours, or just for fun!

*Whew* I can finally rest at ease knowing that those pick and plot machines are getting their 15 nanosecond break for every 8 minutes of work and 3 meals of mineral enriched motor oil a day!

Come on, please show us some video/pictures. This is a big deal. I hope the BBC is filming for the upcomming special:

"Rasberry Pi. How a Small Not-for-profit Took A Byte Out Of The Computer Industry" (they should be). So someone please leak something.

WEEE! I CAN CHANGE MY SIG!

There was a delay in getting them here (I'm not totally clear on the cause), but the first ones will be going out to customers next week from both vendors. (Yes, they do exist!)

It's a small outfit, not at all on the same scale as something like Foxconn. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to identify them at the moment, but I will do when I'm certain I can.

I'm more interested in the animal welfare implications.
We know for a fact - it certainly hasn't been officially denied, so it must be true - that carrier pigeons* are involved in the transport of our Pis from the far east to the UK. So why have the RSPCA not sent a representative? Or the Health and Safety Executive? The route from China passes over the Himalaya - surely that counts as Working at Heights, a known hazzard in British work-places?
We Should Be Told!

*If passenger pigeons were to be used, they could come by sea. Unfortunately they're rather rare.

Over the Himalayas, they'd more likely use Sherpas - and if you'd ever driven a Sherpa, you'd appreciate that a comprehensive risk assessment exercise would be appropriate too!

I`m waiting for the complaints about the import duty.  I used to be sent some LCD Modules marked for test and laboratory work or something, no import duty.  One wasn`t marked up and the import duty was quite high for such a small package, to be paid instantly to Customs and Excise too.

I spoke to a nice bloke at Farnell UK yesterday - and who would want their job? - who added my t shirt size to the order (I missed that bit in my rush to pre order) who reckoned 35,000 orders worldwide.

So that's 35,000 and 56,000 from Farnell in the last 24 hours. Any raise on that?

I'm sure that you are well aware that the correct term is avian carriers.

I understand from Eben that R.Pi's over avian carriers is unofficially supported but avians over R.Pi carriers is not currently exposed to userland.  The Foundation hopes that the R.Pi community will implement the latter*.

*okay, I made that last paragraph up.

So _that"s_ why the old server was so sloooooow!

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki.....n_Carriers

P.s I love the new servers.
Would be interesting to see graphs of old server stats (& RS/Farnell for that matter)... And why not sales per month too?

Unboxings?
"sorry, couldn"t hold camera still, hands shaking with excitement...."

And before you ask, mine won"t arrive for six weeks
It has been my custom to use Xeyes
