Re: Allied electronic not selling the reference design Raspberry Pi???

Tue Mar 06, 2012 2:17 am

I just checked out this link:

http://www.alliedelec.com/sear.....b=overview

from the canadian section in the buying guyde, the picture shown on their website is not of the reference design. Are they making their own version of the Rpi?

If so, what are the differences? and obviously any case being developed on the forum wont fit that board...

I presume it's a picture of an alpha board.

Alpha board here: http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/78

Definitely looks like they used a picture of th alpha instead of the beta/production boards.

You are correct, that is a pic of the alpha board.  You will not get that if you order from them.

Personally I think a spin-off board would be a great thing.  Especially if it had some of the most requested features.  If the spin-off board got popular then those features could be integrated back into the main line.

My bad, i should have checked the alpha boards

Glad to know im not going to get a different product if I order from them though.

I think there will be a lot of spin off with 3rd party upgrades available soon enough. They said they would eventualy release the plans so we can build clones, I wouldnt be surprised some chinese company starts making them especially if they become even more popular.
