Mon Feb 11, 2013 10:08 pm

Post your SD card speeds on your pi. use the following command

Code: Select all

sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=test.dat bs=1M count=1024
Just a bit of fun! I got

Code: Select all

root@raspberrypi:~# sudo dd if=/dev/mmcblk0 of=test.dat bs=1M count=1024
1024+0 records in
1024+0 records out
1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 119.276 s, 9.0 MB/s
Sandisk Class 10 Extreme. Its usually faster but im currently running a minecraft server on there!

Theres already a preferred method of doing this and a database (of sorts) of results. In multitasking operating system land, read speed is far more important than write speed, which is why the official method tests both as seperate tests (you have to do the write first since the read uses the file it creates). The class is all about write speed, for use in high definition video cameras. Its of little real relevance for the Pi IMO.

I managed about 9.9MB/s (Sandisk Extreme Pro, one of those UHS-1 cards)... evidently not running in UHS mode :D I hear we may get support for UHS soon?
