Hi,

I'm curious if the bios / networking will support PXE booting or even better, gPXE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPXE giving some great possibilities for thin clients, small, cheap, HA clusters and numerous other cool toys :) Obviously would be even better if we could get 1000/100/10BaseT in the more expensive model for this kind of thing.

It seems like some form of PXE (most likely iPXE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPXE) must be used because the Raspi OS needs to boot from the SD card.

It boots by doing funky things with the GPU, which then reboots resets the raspberry bringing up the os from the sd card. a post by eben is around on here somewhere from last night.

Yes, I think some kind of network boot support is essential.

So I'd not come across GPXE before. Looking at the wikipedia page, I expect that the pseudo-kernel mode should be supportable. The major challenge will be integrating a driver for the Synopsys USB core into GPXE so we can talk to the network card. There is a GPL kernel module to do this though, so it's not impossible (just time consuming).

It's not strictly PXE, but uboot for RaspberryPi ( http://kernelnomicon.org/ ) has support for network booting.
And have a look at http://www.raspberrypi.org/phpBB3/viewt ... =63&t=5974 too.
