RPi SD Image Hosting?

Tue Jan 01, 2013 12:27 pm

Currently I am hosting on my personal FTP server and currently uploading to SourceForge to allow others with similar application needs to benefit from having pre-configured SD image. And before you ask, no there are no paid apps or codecs on the image.

Any plans to partner with someone to allow users to host SD images?

+1 to this...

The App store is great for education but we need an appliance store for people to host their images or at least link their Image Files. The ease and low cost of the SD cards allows me to have multiple image builds stored away, this has never been possible at a consumer level before. I do it with VMs all the time but that is at a different level. Raspberry could be the first to really allow people at home to get the most out of the hardware. Schools could assign cheap SD cards to students so that they carry their OS with them and maybe have a different OS built per class. I know we solve this issue currently with desktop imaging or VDI but the lower end schools can not afford to purchase or manage either.

I might know why there may be some reluctance. If someone for example posts an image containing proprietary software/codec on a file hosting server, that individual is now in fact distributing improperly licensed software.

I posted my custom image on SF, but made sure it did not contain any proprietary software/codecs. http://sourceforge.net/projects/siriproxyrpi
